Job Description

Summary Of Duties And Responsibilities:
Under general supervision of the Director of Nursing or Senior Director of Nursing, assists with the assessing, identifying, planning, implementing and evaluating of nursing education programs guided by the framework and decision drivers in Nursing Education of the Office of Patient-Centered Care. Performs related work.

General tasks and responsibilities will include:
  • Analyzes issues, trends, and supporting data to determine the needs of individuals, organizations and communities in relation to health care
  • Collects data and information to validate an identified gap in professional practice and to determine the specific knowledge, skill, or practice deficit or opportunity.
  • Identifies desired outcomes of the educational plan.
  • Established a plan that prescribes strategies, alternatives, and resources to achieve expected outcomes
  • Implements and coordinates the identified educational initiatives and activities.
  • Employs strategies to facilitate positive learning and practice environments
  • Provides consultation to influence plans, enhance the abilities of others, and effect change. Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.
  • Integrates ethics in all areas of practice.
  • Maintains current knowledge and competency in nursing and professional development practice.
  • Acts as a champion of scientific inquiry, generating new knowledge and integrating best available evidence into practice.
  • Enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing professional development practice Acts as a change agent within all settings
  • Provides leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession.
  • Collaborates with interprofessional teams, leaders, stakeholders and others to facilitate nursing practice and positive outcomes for consumers.
  • Evaluates personal practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, and relevant statutes, rules and regulations.
  • Considers factors related to quality, safety, effectiveness and cost regarding professional development activities and expected outcomes
  • Advances the profession and the specialty through mentoring and contributions to the professional development of others.
  • Attends, chairs and participates in workgroups


Minimum Qualifications
1. Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3) below.
2. A Master's Degree in Nursing Administration, Education or an equivalent field and a minimum of six years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which four years shall have been in a supervisory, teaching or administrative capacity; or,
3. A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and seven years of satisfactory nursing experience, five years of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or,
4. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.

Department Preferences

  • Five years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which 2-3 years shall have been in a teaching capacity in healthcare or academia.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication
  • Proficient presentation skills
  • Able to engage classroom participants inactive learning
  • Able to conduct remote classes
  • Doctoral Degree preferred (or in progress) or
  • Master's Degree (in the last semester of graduate school) in Education
