Job Description

Under direction of the System Director of Social Work, the Associate Director will assist in the oversight of Social Work practice and care delivery of Behavioral Health services. This role demands a dynamic and forward-thinking professional with a strong commitment to Social Work excellence, policy development, and inter-organizational collaboration. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills, a strategic mindset, and the ability to drive impactful change across the social work services spectrum. This position requires a blend of clinical expertise, leadership skills, and administrative acumen to ensure the efficient functioning and the provision of high-quality care.
  • Support the Systemwide Director of Social Work in the conceptualization, planning, and execution of innovative social work service delivery models and best practices in our behavioral health services.
  • Partner in the co-creation of comprehensive policy and practice frameworks pertaining to the Social Work discipline and workforce development in the areas of Behavioral Health such as Outpatient, Inpatient, CPEP/PES, Child Services, Substance Abuse Services and Crisis Care.
  • Champion the integration of behavioral health services into non-BH settings by collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement strategies that enhance access to and delivery of behavioral health services in diverse healthcare environments.
  • Conduct thorough assessments to identify areas for enhancement within social work services and propose strategic initiatives to bolster their effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Provide expert advice to the Director on policy adjustments, procedural enhancements, workforce management, and staff development, ensuring alignment with best practices and organizational goals as well as enhancing patient care for our behavioral health patients.
  • Forge and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations, government agencies, and advocacy groups to address clinical care challenges, social determinants of health, and promote health equity.
  • Oversee and manage social work-related Electronic Health Record (EPIC) demands, leveraging EMR functionality to enhance practice and streamline operations.
  • Provide specialized social work consultation to support program operations and facilitate successful grant development initiatives for the Office of Behavioral Health.
  • Act as a liaison with community agencies and professional organizations, fostering productive relationships and addressing mutual concerns with hospital and other functionally related officials as related to behavioral health initiatives and patients.
  • Participate actively in appointed meetings and conferences, representing the Director comprehensively in all delegated duties and responsibilities.
  • Collaborate closely with facility-based leadership or designated champions to drive behavioral health social work special initiatives that align with organizational objectives.
  • Prepare detailed reports, studies, and budgetary estimates to support informed decision-making and strategic planning when necessary.
  • Undertake any additional duties as assigned to support the overall mission and objectives of the social work program and the organization.


Minimum Qualifications
1. A Master's Degree (MSW) from an accredited School of Social Work and certification by the State of New York; and,
2. Six years of experience in clinical social work, of which three years are in a health care or medical care setting including psychiatric and medical social work, and three years in a supervisory, consultative and administrative capacity in an organization adhering to acceptable standards with knowledge of administration, with administrative and managerial skills and abilities; or,
3. A satisfactory completion of education, training and experience which includes at least a Master's Degree from an accredited School of Social Work, plus certification from the New York State Department of Education; and,
4. Demonstrated ability to function productively and cooperatively with Director of Social Work, Medical Staff, Administrative Staff and to supervise effectively.
