We are seeking an Associate Propulsion Materials and Process Engineer to join our growing team near Culpeper in beautiful, rural Orange County, Virginia (about 1.5 hours from Washington, DC). This individual performs assignments under general supervision requiring an application of chemical and mechanical principles, theories and concepts in the propulsion field with a working knowledge of other related disciplines (thermal, structural, ballistics). Responsible for performing (technical), organizing (cost and schedule), and implementing tasks directed by a Technical Manager (Department Manager, Technical Fellow, or equivalent) and providing chemical guidance. Specifies chemical testing, evaluates data, and prepares and presents reports of results are typical of the job function.

Our site near Culpeper, VA, in beautiful, rural Orange County (1.5 hours from Washington, DC) is growing! This site is our center of excellence for Solid Rocket Motor Propulsion and Energetics development as well as high-complexity production programs.

Essential Job Functions:

Evaluate and implement tractable solutions to technical problems in production or during development involving the utilization of chemistry and chemical analysis techniques.

Technically responsible for planning (technical), organizing (cost and schedule), and conducting technical projects covering a broad range of technical topics under the guidance of a Technical Manager. Consolidate results, prepare findings for reports and present results.

Develop, plan, and promote projects independently for the implementation of novel technical approaches and cutting edge technologies.

Travel 4-5 trips per year (Camden, HSV, Suppliers in California).

Requires a Bachelor's degree preferably in Chemistry or Material Science. Related technical experience, preferably in lining and bonding operations is desired and/or energetic materials a plus.
  • Knowledge of chemical principles, thermodynamics, polymer chemistry, structure/property relationships, kinetics, and data analysis is essential.
  • Experience with energetic materials, statistical analysis, programming and experimental set-up and data acquisition is a plus.
  • Master's or PhD in Chemistry, Material Science or related science discipline is a plus.
  • Must have ability to travel 4-5 trips per yearto Camden, HSV, Suppliers in CA).
