Under the supervision of the Branch Chief and with guidance from a General Auditor II or III, the Auditor I performs routine audits of handlers to determine whether correct assessments have been remitted to marketing programs and to verify compliance with information reporting requirements of marketing programs. Additionally, the Auditor I will occasionally assist with performing more complex audits of handlers and facilitating enforcement procedures in accordance with Divisions 21 and 22 of the California Food and Agriculture Code.

The Auditor I is expected to work both independently and in a team environment, analyze situations, exercise good judgment, take appropriate actions, and meet deadlines to maintain effective and thorough administrative oversight of marketing programs. A valid California driver's license is required for this position. A significant amount of travel (up to 50%) is required for this position.

Working Conditions

The Auditor I must be able to work under stressful conditions and under pressure to meet time and cost constraints. Work for this position is primarily indoors. When at headquarters, work is in a shared office with a workstation including a computer, monitor, keyboard, and telephone.

Overnight travel (up to 50%) is required throughout the state at all times of the year. On travel status, the Auditor I will be visiting agricultural handler facilities and offices to conduct audits. The Auditor I must be able to travel by the most efficient mode of transportation available, including travel by commercial air, rental car, or both.

Regular or recurring telework may occur as part of the incumbent's ongoing regular schedule in accordance with CDFA's Telework Policy.

Department Information
The Marketing Branch carries out the Department's statutory responsibility to oversee the administration of California's 48 advisory boards, councils, and commissions, collectively referred to as "marketing programs". This oversight is to assure that each program is being administered in a manner that is consistent with its enabling law and any corresponding regulations, benefits those funding the program, and benefits the general public.
