Meta's global network, comprised of cutting-edge platforms, is looking for a Network Engineering Manager to join the Backbone Engineering team. This team is responsible for designing, deploying, and operating one of the world's largest and most advanced optical global networks. In this role you will work closely with other engineers with a wide variety of deep technical expertise in software, systems, IP, and Optical networking to drive forward innovation and expansion of our network.

Backbone Production Network Engineering Manager Responsibilities

• Manage engineers working to build and support multiple network systems for our Backbone network infrastructure used by billions of users all around the world


• Partner closely with global planning, deployment, and operational teams to achieve business goals


• Help define and drive regular development of the technical roadmap to meet the needs of the team, and partner teams


• Build and maintain software systems for network design, monitoring, and analysis for our multi-vendor backbone and metro networks


• Help engineers develop their careers, assigning them to projects tailored to their skill levels, long-term skill development, personalities, and work styles


• Assess employee performance frequently, address under-performance, and recognize and promote excellent performance


• Work closely with dedicated recruiting staff to expand the team, including sourcing candidates, interviewing candidates, participating in conferences/events, and on-boarding new employees


• Communicate cross-functionally and drive engineering efforts


• Operate in a rapidly evolving environment, adapting quickly to new information and re-prioritizing as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience


• 2+ years' experience managing technical network related engineering teams, including performance management experience


• Knowledge of networking and distributed software systems


• Experience in network design and/or management systems for large-scale networks


• Experience initiating and driving projects to completion with minimal guidance and communicating insights and ideas across organization

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in building software systems for network design, management, monitoring, and analysis for multi-vendor optical backbone and metro networks


• Experience in building and operating optical networks based upon the latest generation of optical platforms.

$177,000/year to $251,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
