This recruitment will establish an eligible list for current and future Temporary vacancies. Temporary positions carry no benefits, hours will vary, and work schedules may be sporadic.

This is investigative work providing pre-employment background investigation screening of potential employees for public safety agencies.

Employee is responsible for obtaining pertinent information through criminal background checks on a statewide and national level; past employment and background history information; Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) history; credit reports; drug screening history; domestic violence, etc.

Other duties include:

Conducting site visits to neighborhoods, employers, etc.; collecting and analyzing information and data and preparing complex reports to determine suitability and eligibility of applicants for employment in public safety positions; handling confidential information with care and discretion; observing the Privacy Act; and working independently, establishing work priorities and coordinating work to meet deadlines.

Employee must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation to be able to access information required to perform the work of this position.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Two (2) years of investigative experience related to police or employment background inquiries or directly related to conducting public safety pre-employment background investigations.

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Preferred Criteria

There is no Preferred Criteria. All applicants will be reviewed for minimum qualification. These applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be rated "Qualified", placed on the Eligible List, and may be considered for interview.

Preference for interviews will be given to applicants with experience in the following areas:

1. Experience conducting investigation and preparing extensive written investigative reports; conducting pre-employment background investigations on applicants for public safety position is preferred.

2. Experience in utilizing interviewing techniques.

3. Experience in utilizing law enforcement computer systems, such as NCIC, METERS, etc.

4. Experience operating a personal computer utilizing Word, Excel, Access, etc.

5. Experience working with guidelines, federal, state and local law regarding the conducting of background investigations including the American with Disabilities and Age Discrimination in Employment Act.
