Billing Manager, Global Patient Services Business Operations

Under the direction of the Director of Business Operations and Finance, the Billing Manager provides oversight, management and delivery of the international patient financial counselling operations and associated operational aspects within MGB Global Patient Services . This requires a thorough understanding of billing processes and pricing strategies, and a commitment to ensuring high touch financial services for GPS patients and streamlined estimate, discounting and billing processes. Embodying the highest levels of internally- and externally-focused service, the Billing Manager draws on a broad understanding of hospital and physician practice processes and policies, and requires a high degree of initiative and independent judgment.

The Billing Manager collaborates closely with departmental leadership across the MGB system to continually assess and manage a wide range of issues, including operational, personnel, financial, facilities and systems issues, programmatic and project development. Manages all aspects of processes and operations related to patient and relevant payer finance/billing. Leads and inspires a high performing, service-oriented team of multi-lingual and multi-cultural professionals. With an eye toward innovation, ensures efficient processes, is proactive in identifying new solutions to complex problems, and promotes high levels of patient and payer satisfaction. Establishes programs, policies and procedures to maximize reimbursement for all services rendered, prevent denials, and minimize financial risk to the institution while maintaining high levels of quality. Serves as a key contributor to Department leadership team, leading efforts in strategic planning, training, workflows, and policies. Embodies the values of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Duties Include

1. Creates and oversees MGB GPS Patient Billing functions, working with MGH & BWH IPC staff, MGB, MGH, BWH, MEE, SRH and PO finance teams to optimize revenue cycle processes for GPS patients and referring entities.

2. Provides data and insights on the patient experience to help inform GPS patient recruitment and pricing strategy by country and payer, specifically regarding affordability (self-pay) and patient access (embassy and commercial)

3. In conjunction with MGH & BWH IPC leadership, leads and supports directors in developing and improving operations and workflows to ensure highest performance of all function

4. Recruits, retains, and inspires a high-performing team

5. Provides KPI tracking and reporting; point person for implementing performance improvement plans based on KPI reports

6. Serves as a key contributor in the GPS business strategy, and the primary lead in driving the Quarterly Payer Business Review meeting series, extracting data from reports, creating slides decks, aiding in the storytelling and communications of the reports.

  • Required Level: Bachelors degree Discipline: Business, Finance, Health Management, International, other related

    Preferred Level: Masters degree Discipline: Business, Finance, Health Management, International, other related
  • International savvy, multilingual
  • 3rd party billing, hospital and PO billing
  • Technologically fluent
  • Organizational skills, ability to function at a very high level in a complex and rapidly changing environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, proven success in building a broad network across a large organization
