--Overview:

We are seeking a Technical Project Leader who will focus on. This position resides in the Computational and Predictive Biology Group in the Biosciences Division, Biological and Environmental System Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

The Biosciences Division at ORNL is focused on advancing science and technology to better understand complex biological systems and their relationship with their environment at all scales. The Division has expertise and special facilities in genomics, computational biology, microbiology, microbial ecology, biophysics and structural biology, and plant sciences. The Computational and Predictive Biology Group is an interdisciplinary group that focuses on technology development with specific interests in systems biology, explainable-AI, network analysis, and information flow.

The successful candidate will receive comprehensive support for training and education to obtain PMP certification. This position offers a unique chance to play a key role within the Project Management team, collaborating closely with senior team members.

As part of our team, you will...

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Manage the preparation and timely delivery of programmatic deliverables for DOE and other sponsors. These deliverables consist of quarterly program reports, programmatic review documents, operation plans, reports, and other factual documents.
  • Gather input from PIs and deliver quarterly reporting on a timely basis to the sponsor.
  • Responsible for the planning, coordination, and final preparation of the program budget.
  • Help prepare and submit Annual Operating Plan, Strategic Partnership Project proposals, Cooperative Research and Development Agreements, and Field Work Proposals into the appropriate DOE/ORNL systems.
  • Serve as the Technical Project Officer (TPO) for procurement activities, working with the PI's to help prepare Statements of Work and other supporting documents for new subcontracts, and communicate with buyers/approvers during the procurement process.
  • Assist with and develop content for the ORNL BSD business activities including lab planning documents, PEMP reports, and sponsor presentations.
  • Support PIs in preparing project plans, schedules, and status reports. Assess project issues and develop resolutions to meet goals and objectives.
  • Determine proposal requirements and distribute this information to potential proposers, determine internal deadlines for ORNL responses, review ORNL proposals, submit and track proposal progress.
  • This position has a very strong tactical and operational focus. One aspect of this position is to handle the operational tasks associated with tracking and finance so that the GL, TL's, and PI's can focus on science and strategic activities.

Basic Qualifications:
  • A BS deree in science, technology, or business related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and interpret metrics and data.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and positive with a can-do attitude.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • A natural problem solver with a knack for technical challenges and process improvement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with collaborative Project Management tools (Trello, JIRA, Slack).
  • Specific Project Management focus/training.
