The Virginia Department of Health Profession's (DHP) mission is to ensure safe and competent patient care by licensing health professionals, enforcing standards of practice, and providing information to health care practitioners and the public.

The Deputy Executive Director provides professional operational support to the Executive Director for the Boards of Nursing by managing
and coordinating disciplinary processes and assisting the Executive Director on matters related to board policy, management and operations. This position has primary leadership and management responsibilities for the Nursing Discipline and Compliance teams and associated processes.

Minimum Qualifications

Required KSA's and/or Competencies to successfully perform the work:

- Extensive knowledge of the laws, regulations and procedures associated with the regulation of professional occupations and with adjudication of disciplinary cases.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills and word processing skills using MS Office Suite Microsoft 365 in a Windows environment.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze patient treatment records, legal documents and technical material to make case management decisions.
- Extensive experience communicating effectively orally and in writing with agency personnel, board
members, licensees and the public, including the ability to prepare official case documents and supplemental case reports.
- Experience independently managing and supervising employees, including the ability to establish and evaluate performance goals.
-Experience providing nursing care in a healthcare setting.
-Extensive clinical knowledge.
-Knowledge of Freedom of Information Act and the Administrative Process Act

-Experience in regulatory/legal environment preferred.
