Description
MAIN FUNCTION:
A professional nurse who, by virtue of education and clinical experiences, possesses the knowledge and clinical expertise to provide care, education and support to clients. Reports to Director/Health Center for Women.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Quantity of Work
1. Performs clinical breast exams on self referred clients, Breast and Cervical Health
Partnership clients, and others as requested
2. Coordinates all components of clinical biopsy procedures, including scheduling, liaison
activities with referring physician and radiologist, and patient education and follow-up.
3. Functions as a clinical assistant to radiologist during biopsy and post procedure care.
4. Maintains appropriate patient records for clinical aspects of job.
Educational
5. Is certified to teach breast exam technique and provides teaching to all patients needing
breast exams and others as requested.
6. Provides education on breast self-exams to community groups.
7. Develops and presents public education programs to groups as requested and through the
Health Center for Women lecture series.
8. Writes articles for publication as needed and interfaces with media (newspaper, radio,
television) when requested.
9. Provides current information regarding breast health, Arnot Ogden Medical Center
(AOMC) services and scheduled programs to webmaster for incorporation in AOMC
website.
10. Coordinates activities for Breast Cancer Awareness month in October of each year.
Community
11. Serves as AOMC representative on the Chemung County Breast and Cervical Health
Partnership and attends monthly meetings.
12. Interfaces with American Cancer Society as needed and serves on the committee for the
annual Breast Health Awareness Run/Walk event.
13. Participates in health fair and other health related community events as required.
Counseling
14. Assists clients in the acquisition of information and resources to assist in making
decisions about treatment(s) for breast cancer.
15. Provides emotional support for the client and her family on an individual basis, as well as
facilitating support groups as needed.
16. Serves as a patient advocate/case manager, helps the individual and her family access
services at AOMC and in the community, schedules physician care, and provides
coordination of care with the Falck Cancer Center.
Administrative
17. Keeps all statistics and coordinates follow-up data for all breast cancer cases as required
by FDA.
18. Provides follow-up for self referred clients for mammography services and maintains
these files for NYSDOH and FDA audits.
19. Manages information flow for all Breast and Cervical Health Partnership clients.
20. Practices quality in daily work principles on a consistent basis and initiates ongoing
quality improvement activities for breast services.
21 Demonstrates excellent communication skills - verbally and in writing.
22. Provides age appropriate care to all clients.
23. Shows willingness to work occasional evenings or weekend hours as special programs
dictate.
24. Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position.
25. Employee understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient by interacting with him/her in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to the customer's needs, both psychologically and physically, and by taking the initiative to maintain communication with the customer in order to provide a secure and pleasant experience with the Medical Center.

EDUCATION:
RN with current license in NYS or a Licensed Radiologic Technician. Certification in Clinical Breast Examination and Oncology Certification preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 5 years in a clinical setting. Well organized and self-directed. High level of proficiency in verbal and written communication.
CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:
No CPR required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Appreciable physical effort required. Some lifting, reaching, and stooping.
