Description

Driver

  • Reports to work on time, is reliable for regular and overtime work, and is absent only with good cause.
  • Transports PK-12 students along with their authorized teachers and chaperones to and from the EEC every school day.
  • Transports Astronomy students along with their authorized teachers and chaperones to and from the EEC three evenings per month.
  • Transports other student groups along with their authorized teachers and chaperones to and from events for the STEM Department during evenings and weekends.
  • Presents a positive role model for patrons that supports the goals of the Dallas ISD.
  • Follows the Dallas ISD Driver Code of Conduct.
  • Follows the chain of command as noted in organizational policy.
  • Exhibits good judgment in decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Monitors students while they board and leave the bus or cross the street.
  • Observes all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
  • Communicates with the EEC staff to review scheduled field trips and coordinate efficient pick-up and drop-off times.
  • Communicates with teachers, other school staff, and parents on a regular basis regarding pick up and drop-off times, and student behavior while on the bus.
  • Assumes charge of the bus and passengers while the bus is in route and is responsible for the safety and conduct of those transported.
  • Instructs students and other passengers on proper loading and unloading procedures.
  • Instructs students and other passengers on safe riding rules and regulations.
  • Unloads coolers/students' lunches from the bus every morning and brings them to the lunch hall.
  • Loads coolers/students' lunches back onto the bus every afternoon.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the EEC bus.
  • Inspects the EEC bus by checking fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes, and steering to ensure the bus can be operated safely before driving.
  • Inspects the EEC bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notifies Dallas ISD fleet maintenance departments or other departments as needed for repair and servicing.
  • Ensures emergency equipment is available and remains in good condition, such as a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crow bar, and reflector.
  • Keeps records of bus mileage, gas and oil consumption, and the number of passengers transported.
  • Recognized needs of job and suggests ways to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Attends and completes all required staff development programs to maintain safety certification as needed.
  • Renders assistance, if needed, when the bus breaks down or is involved in an accident.


Maintenance

  • Demonstrates regular attendance and punctuality; works overtime as needed.

  • Maintains a cleaning schedule that includes dusting, mopping floors, cleaning walls, emptying trash cans, cleaning windows, and cleaning restrooms.
  • Coordinates, plans the work schedule, and supervises all custodial related activities of volunteers and/or community service workers.
  • Keeps grounds around facilities including entryways, sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots neat and clean.
  • Reads and interprets documentation such as safety procedures, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Maintains and properly uses personal protective equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on all custodial equipment.
  • Monitors HVAC equipment for environmental comfort according to the established guidelines and directives.
  • Maintains material safety data records for all chemicals being used at the facilities.
  • Inspects the facilities daily for damage; identifies and initiates maintenance work orders in SchoolDude.
  • Keeps work order records and follows up on work order requests as necessary.
  • Inspects employee work sections daily to ensure adherence to housekeeping cleaning.
  • Performs a monthly inventory of supplies and procure supplies for the facilities.
  • Ensures proper storage and usage of all custodial supplies and equipment.
  • Reports all emergency situation and problems, maintenance, and safety concerns to appropriate personnel; takes appropriate action to ensure adherence to established guidelines and established procedures in the handling of problems and emergencies.
  • Complies with the Texas Hazardous Communications Act, which includes emphasizing safety, storing, handling, labeling, and application of all chemicals.
  • Distributes district, USPS, UPS, and FedEx deliveries to various buildings where they are needed.
  • Assists EEC staff with custodial duties in the lunchroom during lunch periods.
  • Assists EEC staff with custodial duties in other areas such a 26,000 square foot museum, outdoor classroom, and fossil pavilion.
  • Assists the EEC staff as necessary in preparation for special events hosted by the center including teacher training workshops, meetings, retreats, public events, and other special events.
  • Attends and completes all required staff development programs as required by the Custodial Services Department or by the district.
  • Performs landscaping duties such as mowing, trimming, edging, and trimming trees and bushes - the EEC is a 500-acre academic facility.
  • Coordinates, plans the work schedule, and supervises all landscaping related activities of volunteers and/or community service workers.
  • Assists with trail mowing, removal of fallen trees and branches - the EEC maintains about 5 miles of trails - to keep trails passable for students and other visitors.
  • Assists with maintaining signage on EEC property.
  • Assists with picking up trash in and around a 300-acre Post Oak Preserve.
  • Operates and maintains grounds equipment such as chainsaws, posthole diggers, zero turn lawnmowers, trimmers, and blowers.
  • Operates district vehicles and pulls gooseneck trailers and other large trailers in a safe manner.
  • Assists with fence maintenance/upkeep for livestock.
  • Keeps the garage/shop area neat, clean, and organized.
  • Maintains tools, equipment, and other EEC supplies.
  • Assists EEC staff with landscaping duties in other areas such a camping area/pavilion.


Qualifications

  • Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency)
  • At least 21 years of age required.
  • Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License, (Class A or B) with Passenger (P) and School (S) endorsements.
  • Type 3 driving record that meets the District's standard for operations of motor vehicles.
  • Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam.
  • Meet all state (TEA) qualifications for school bus drivers.
  • Certification of completion of school bus safety course or must be enrolled in a school safety education course.
  • Exceptional communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in speaking, reading, and writing - Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
  • Knowledge of district organizations, operations, and administrative policies preferred.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office, e-mail, and SchoolDude.
  • Skill in effectively planning and organizing custodial activities.
  • Skill in cleaning methods and procedures, sanitation, safety, security, and building maintenance.
  • Thorough knowledge of custodial equipment.
  • Skill in landscaping methods and procedures and thorough knowledge of landscaping equipment.
