Job Summary This position in the Patient Billing Customer Service Department is responsible for receiving and responding to patient billing inquiries by phone and correspondence. Receives calls and correspondence from patients, physicians, clinics, insurance companies, attorneys, regarding billing questions for UCDHS Hospital and Clinic, Professional Services and PCN clinic services. Creates organized and effective systems for handling complaints and responding in a timely manner. Audits accounts in the Epic billing system to respond to incoming inquires and to ensure that correct billing procedures were followed on all accounts. Ensures all insurances were billed and update accounts as appropriate. Resolves inquiry immediately and discuss findings with patient/ responsible party or advise of action to be taken and when they will hear regarding the outcome. Follows up on account within policy time frames. Keeps patient up to date regarding inquiry status. Determines if inquiry needs clinic review, email clinic contact to give detail of patient inquiry, get feedback, make adjustments to account as appropriate, respond to patient regarding outcome. Sets up payment arrangements as warranted based on patients' ability to pay and account balances, offer discounts, negotiate settlements. Screens patient for potential assistance through other resources. Prioritizes any un-returned telephone calls daily, with all calls returned within 24 hours of receipt.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Call center experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication and ability to convey information in a clear and concise manner
  • Basic knowledge of medical billing/ reimbursement requirements and procedures with ability to analyze and interpret various types of explanation of benefits and remittance advise
  • General knowledge of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and International Classification of Disease (ICD-9) policies related to medical billing
  • High school diploma or GED
