The Haslam College of Business (HCB) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for a Career Development Manager (Full-time, Exempt) in the Center for Student Engagement & Success. Reporting to the Director of Professional & Career Development, this position will facilitate professional development and business communication opportunities for Haslam College of Business (HCB) undergraduate students. In particular, the Career Development Manager supervises the Professional Development Coordinators that oversee the BUAD 200 and BUAD 300 courses in the Haslam Leaders: Ready to do Business four-course series required of all undergraduate business students. The role will also support the HCB Career Coaches in collaboration with the Center for Career Development and Academic Exploration. This role will lead the strategic design and development of student-focused programs and services that will expand the professional development of HCB students.

Qualifications:

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership, Supervision, and Administration
    • Contribute to creation and facilitation of departmental leadership objectives to ensure most effective operations of the department, analyze long-term impact of decisions and plans, and establish and evaluate standards of performance; affect changes in office policy in collaboration with Director; represent Director at campus meetings and events when needed
    • Strategically engage with internal and external topic experts to make complex decisions around curriculum and programmatic design to continually evaluate and enhance quality
    • Contribute to annual budgeting process by identifying needed resources and associated costs to implement strategic vision for student support initiatives and providing recommendations to Director
  • Program Development and Support
    • Create and implement new career programming & initiatives that meet the evolving career development needs of business students
    • Act as primary liaison for Professional & Career Development team in the student development subcommittee
    • Interface with HCB departments and campus units on collaborative career programming
  • Assessment, Data, and Marketing
    • Collect and analyze data to make informed decisions regarding programmatic development, design, delivery, and outcomes
    • Maintain the undergraduate careers website
    • Lead marketing efforts for PCD programming and act as lead contact with Student Engagement regarding Haslam Career Weekly newsletter
  • Teaching & Curriculum
    • Conduct check-ins with all Haslam Leaders course coordinators to discuss best practices, ensure communication and collaboration, and reduce redundancies in curriculum
    • Oversee the BUAD 492 internship course
    • Coordinate special sections of Haslam Leaders (e.g., UTSA, Honors, IBEP)
    • Support Instructor recruitment and retention efforts in collaboration with Professional Development Coordinators
    • The ideal candidate will also teach one course each semester in Haslam Leaders curriculum
  • Additional unit, campus, and professional development activities and support
    • Collaborate with other HCB and campus units on career-related efforts
    • Conduct career coaching support to students as needed
    • Participate in professional development activities to ensure professional growth and knowledge needed to provide effective leadership; participate in various local, state, regional, and national organizations such as SOACE and NACE.


Qualifications:

  • Required Qualifications and Experience:
    • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Business, English, or related field required
    • Minimum of five years full-time experience in education, preferably in a university setting. Graduate assistantship experience counts as .5 FTE.
    • At least three years of experience working with students, employees or clients in 1:1 setting or teaching environment.
    • Familiarity with business communication (ie: resumes, cover letters, executive summaries)
  • Desired Qualifications and Experience:
    • Program development and assessment experience preferred.
    • Experience working with undergraduate business students preferred.
    • Curriculum development experience preferred.

    • Knowledge of program and/or curriculum design and development best practices
    • Proven ability to develop and execute learning objectives/outcomes and assessment plans to improve class and program delivery
    • Knowledge of course technology (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard)
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Preferred:
    • Knowledge of Career Services software (ie: CSO, Handshake, Symplicity, 12Twenty)
    • Knowledge of Gallup CliftonStrengths
