Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to; obtaining quality diagnostic MRI images and providing a written description of the exam to radiologists. Serves as a resource and provides training for new associates and students. Provides other functions that may need to be assigned. Maintains patient confidentiality and HIPAA Standards.

Essential Duties:

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
  • Reviews and recommends exam protocols to the department manager with approval from the chief radiologist.
  • Trains student MRI technologists in coordination with program director by monitoring and reporting progress to student, clinical program.
  • Maintains communication with physician's offices, radiologist, dept manager and staff.
  • Maintains communication with patient on any delays in their exam.
  • Obtains quality images as outlined in established protocols and submits them to the radiologist for interpretation.
  • Properly annotates images, noting areas of interest.
  • Performs warm-up procedure on equipment
  • Enters patient data and appropriate scan parameters
  • Reviews patient data to assure proper exam
  • Interviews and screens patients for contraindications prior to having an MRI study
  • Explains the MRI procedure and answers any patient questions.
  • Injects appropriate IV contrast
  • Utilize correct protocols, coils, restraints and other materials when scanning.
  • Performs scan with attention to appropriate positioning; be alert for need of additional or thinner slices/images.


Job Requirements

General Requirements

• ARRT registered with MRI Certification.

Work Experience

• None • Preferred - 2 years MRI experience.

Education

• Graduation from an accredited Radiology Program or graduating within one year of hire date from an accredited Radiology Program.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• Must have good communication skills, accurate writing and spelling, reasoning, and computer skills • Understands and is able to use the telephone, including transferring calls. • Understands and abides by the established protocols for magnet safety. • Understands and is able to send images to PACS • Understands an is able to scan patient documentation into PACS • Understands and is able to correctly identify charge codes and place exam orders through Epic. • Understands and is able to place orders for supplies in Epic. • Ability to assess the patient's needs for transportation and imaging • Understands and maintains the infection prevention and control policies established by the hospital. • Understands and maintains the isolation techniques established by the hospital. • Follows hand hygiene policies and utilizes personal protective equipment as required. • Understands and practices body mechanics to lift and assist patients. • Understands and responds to Emergency Codes. • Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.
