SUMMARY:

The Certified Athletic Trainer will provide athletic training services to student athletes under the direction of the team physician or to clinic patients by written referral from a physician, in accordance with the State of Georgia Practice act. Primary responsibility is to provide day-to-day athletic training services for local sports team(s). The athletic trainer will attend practices, home, and away games as agreed upon by organization leadership and Board(s) of Education for participating schools. Working hours will be split between on-site coverage at school athletic events, including sporting events after hours if needed, and treatment coverage in organization's physician/therapy clinics.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Manages the health care of participating athletes; including but not limited to first aid/emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, use of appropriate modalities, prevention and rehabilitation programs and medical referrals.
* Covers assigned pre-season physicals, sports games or matches, and related events under the supervision of the program director and/or team physician.
* Provides athletic training services to patients and athletes as required.
* Develops treatment programs in accordance with findings of evaluations and goals established during the injury assessment or by the treating physician.
* Assesses athletes' status in response to treatment and modify program as appropriate.
* Assists physical therapist(s) with the implementation of treatment of plan(s) for patients with sports or orthopedic conditions referred for rehabilitation following Physical Therapy Evaluation.
* Maintains athletes' medical records and submit injury reports as required.
* Keeps training supplies, equipment and clinical area safe, clean and organized.
* Orders, maintains and inventories supplies and clinical equipment.
* Implements pre-season, in-season and post-season strength and conditioning programs as requested.
* Supervises student athletic trainers, aides and volunteers as assigned.
* Complies with OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards.
* Maintains level of skill and expertise consistent with the latest theory and techniques.
* Assists with the development and implementation of operational policies and procedures of the sports medicine program as requested by the program manager/director.
* Answers pages or call promptly.
* Demonstrates proper taping, strapping, bracing and fitting of athletic equipment.
* Maintains confidentiality of athlete injury information.
* Completes required documentation accurately and timely.
* Prevents/corrects problems or unsafe conditions.
* Recommends new equipment and supplies to ensure optimum quality of athlete's care.
* Remains up to date with current evaluation skills, techniques and knowledge.
* Acts as a liaison between family physicians and specialists, the school district, athletes and their parents, and TRHS administrative and clinical staff.
* Provides personal care and attention to patients/athletes, and their family members using AIDET principles.
* Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and facility regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
* Understands and adheres to compliance standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflicts of Interest Policy.
* Demonstrates age-specific skills as required by position.
* Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs.
* Attends all mandatory education programs.
* Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.
* Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.
* Willing to cross-train in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in department.
* Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.
* Manages resources effectively.
* Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment.
* Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.

EDUCATION:

* Bachelor's Degree in Related Field

CREDENTIALS:

* Certified Athletic Trainer

OTHER INFORMATION:

* Must maintain licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Georgia.

* Must maintain BLS certification.

* Must maintain a valid driver's license.

* Minimum of two (2) years athletic training experience in sports environment required, team sports preferred.
