The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking qualified and enthusiastic individuals to join our Forensic Nursing Home team within the Direct Care and Treatment (DCT) / Forensic Services division.

The Forensic Nursing Home is located on the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center campus in St. Peter, MN. The Forensic Nursing Home is Minnesota's only state-operated nursing home, the facility provides a secure, licensed nursing home setting for individuals who are civilly committed.

Job Responsibilities:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)/Human Services Support Specialist (HSSS) is a part of a multi-disciplinary team and provides direct care, treatment, support, and leisure activities to residents at the Forensic Nursing Home.

Day-to-day responsibilities of this position include:
  • Providing care to residents in accordance with the plan of care and under the direction of a licensed nurse while maintaining a therapeutic working relationship with residents
  • Directly supporting residents as necessary including assisting in meal preparation, laundry, housekeeping, and personal care activities, emergency intervention and providing general resident supervision
  • Addressing crisis situations that present a risk to the health and safety of residents (e.g., CPR, first aid, emergency physical intervention)
  • Using non-physical intervention strategies (e.g., negotiation, active listening, redirection) whenever possible to address behavioral crisis and potential behavioral crisis
  • Maintaining a clean safe working environment
  • Transporting residents, if needed

No prior healthcare experience or certification is necessary. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)training program is offered free of chargeto employee's hired at the Forensics Nursing Home. The training will provide employees the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to excel. Employees will learn everything from basic nursing skills to patient communication, all while working alongside experienced professionals.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

Preferred Qualifications
  • CNA Certification
  • CNA experience or healthcare experience
  • Valid driver's license.
  • High School diploma or General Education Diploma
