Home Health Aide/Certified Nursing Assistant Job Summary

Provides various personal care and related paraprofessional services in accordance with an established plan of care. Provides for the personal needs and comfort of clients in their homes.
Essential Functions
  • Adheres to Right at Home policies and procedures.
  • Performs work under the supervision of the Staffing Coordinator/Operations Manager.
  • Performs personal care activities contained in a written assignment by a supervisor, which includes but is not limited to assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs):
    • Personal hygiene (assisting to the bathroom or with use of bedpan, bathing, care of mouth, skin and hair)
    • Ambulation
    • Eating and meal prep
    • Dressing
    • Shaving
  • Performs other assigned activities that are taught by a Registered Nurse for a specific client. These may include but are not limited to:
    • Assisting with the change of ostomy appliances
    • Reinforcement of non-sterile dressings
    • Assisting with the use of devices for aid in daily living (cane, walker, wheelchair or lift device)
    • Assisting with prescribed range of motion exercises
    • Assisting with self-administered simple blood/urine tests for sugar, acetone or albumin (PCA may not interpret results)
    • Preparing special diets
    • Measuring intake and output of fluids
    • Taking vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure)
    • Application of an external (condom-type) catheter
    • Assist with application of arm/leg sling/splint
  • Performs light housekeeping tasks that will facilitate the client's self-care at home, including but not limited to: vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, doing dishes, laundry, cleaning bathrooms
  • Accurately documents services and tasks provided using Client Care Record
  • Refers all questions, concerns, changes in client's condition, etc. to management immediately
Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Availability
  • High school graduate or G.E.D. certificate preferred
  • For CNA, successful completion of state approved CNA program and State of Florida certification
  • For HHA, successful completion of a written Competency Evaluation and Skills Assessment
  • Current CPR certification (must obtain within 30 days of hire)
  • The ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English as needed for the job
  • Have valid driver's license if agreeing to transport clients
