This posting is for a School Taxi/Van Driver for the 2024-25 school year. The position is anticipated to be 5.5 hours per day.

The job of a School Van/Motorpool Driver is done for the purpose of transporting students for scheduled routes and/or special trips; enforcing rules, regulations, and laws to maintain safety during transport. This staff ensures the vehicle is in safe operating conditions and safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from District motor pool vehicles.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Job Responsibilities:
  • Drives school van/car in accordance with the laws established by the WA State Department of Licensing as well as the policies established by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the purpose of transporting students on scheduled routes to and from school as well as extracurricular activity trips.
  • Performs a daily pre-trip and post-trip inspection to ensure any vehicle driven is in safe operating condition and complying with mandated guidelines.
  • Informs students, parents, and school personnel of events, policies, and practices.
  • Responds to inquiries from students, parents, as well as school personnel regarding necessary information about transportation services.
  • Reports observations and/or incidents (discipline, accidents, inappropriate behavior) in accordance with school district policies and procedures).
  • Monitors student and other passengers during transit ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers.
  • Advises students and other passengers of appropriate behavior for the purpose of reinforcing established guideline and maintaining passenger safety.
  • Assists students and other passengers in the proper procedures during the loading and unloading of van/cars during normal transport as well as in an emergency situation.
  • Conducts emergency evacuation drills in accordance with OSPI policies.
  • Consistently deal with people in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Administer first aid if/when necessary.
  • Perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Job Requirements:
  • Possess a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent, copy of diploma or transcript must be provided
  • Possess a valid Washington State Driver's License
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years driving experience
  • Must be a minimum of twenty-one years of age
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical examination, requirements of such provided by the State of Washington
  • Possess and maintain a valid CPR/First Aid certification
  • Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance (cost paid by employee), and drug testing clearance
  • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
  • Good driving record
  • Good moral character
  • Reliability, dependability, initiative and honesty
  • Evidence of previous successful job performance
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable

Education Required:
  • High School diploma or equivalent (copy must be provided to the District upon hire).
