Assist military & civilian personnel in balancing the competing demands of the mission and family life by catering programs and services for eligible children and youth from birth through 18 years of age. The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative and clerical support for the operation of the Child and Youth Programs.

  • Receives and directs callers or visitors. Conduct informational tours of the facility for parents and visitors. Answers phones, takes messages and delivers messages.
  • Uses office automation software to perform basic functions such as work processing, electronic mail and/or update of data in electronic files.
  • Uses Child Care enrollment software to monitor children's records and payments.
  • Provides information about the organization, functions, activities and personnel to customers/supervisor.
  • Establishes maintains and reviews files in accordance with office plans. Maintains publications files and forms supply per AFI 34-144
  • Enrolls children in Child and Youth Programs and checks patrons into center.
  • Serves as site supervisor when required and by regulation at a Child and Youth Program facility.
  • Prepares and processes purchase requests.
  • Monitors Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) in classrooms to ensure quality of program and check for problems.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OP) Qualification Standards for General Schedule positions, Administrative and Management positions located here

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade NK-01, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of various office automation software processing procedures and function keys and the similarities and differences among software types to produce a wide range of documents; knowledge of standard office equipment, such as copiers, etc.; knowledge of body of rules, procedures, or operations applicable to clerical assignments, such as preparing various routine correspondence/reports, maintaining files/records, and reviewing and processing mail; subject-matter knowledge of the Airman and Family Services programs and operations; the maintaining of inventory records and replenishing supplies; the body of standardized rules, processes, or operations. This experience must have been at a level of difficulty and complexity sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of this position. It may have been gained in the private sector, volunteer service, military service, and/or government service, etc..

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
You must have a combination of the specialized experience and education as described in "1" and "2" above that equals 100 percent when combined to equal the required 1 year of specialized experience needed for this position. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS WITH YOUR APPLICATION.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the NK-01 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the NK-02 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

RECRUITMENT KNOWELDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Ability to understand, use, and maintain directories, personnel lists, and other guides and references.

2. Ability to communicate effectively orally, using tact and courtesy.

3. Knowledge of common clerical practices and office routines.

4. Knowledge of filing systems and procedures and the subject matter content of the materials being processed.

5. Knowledge of format and clerical procedures to arrange a variety of material from different sources.

6. Knowledge of Child and Youth programs and procedures and related programs such as, Family Child Care,

USDA Food Program, Preschool and Youth Activities.

7. Ability to learn money handling techniques and procedures.
