UPMC Home Health is looking to hire a Child Development Specialist to provide in-home services to children and families in Early Intervention. This position focuses on family coaching to help parents/families to support the early developmental needs of their child.

This position is part-time Monday-Friday between 8:00 am-7:00 pm, scheduling patients is at the employee's discretion. Services provided in Blair County with the possibility of services in Centre, Bedford/Somerset counties.

Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates and teaches activities to the parents or caregiver to incorporate into typical family routines and play.
  • Evaluates enrolled children on an annual basis and reports results to Multi-disciplinary Team to determine continued eligibility for service.
  • Endeavors to achieve and maintain quality and customer satisfaction in the delivery of services to internal/external customers.
  • Completes and submits all required documentation (i.e. service plan, quaterly/6 month/ annual review, contact logs progress reports, etc.) within the timeframes dictated by regulations, county/Agency processes and best practices.
  • Responds to families needs for special services and refers to Service Coordinator when appropriate.
  • Promotes teamwork through positive and productive communication with all EI team members.
  • Represents and participates in Agency professional and community activities as requested.
  • Demonstrates support of Agency mission and philosophy in delivery of services.
  • Collaborates with families during Individual Family Service Plan team meeting to develop effective plan for achieving outcomes desired by family.
  • Intervention services, three months prior to the third birthday, for the purpose of transition into school system.
  • Maintains and protects customer, staff and Agency confidentiality.
  • Actively seeks and supports family input into design of Individual Family Service
  • Designs activities for each child which are specifically intended to promote each area of development that has been identified as an intervention area.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the developmental plan and makes revisions based on child/families response and professional judgment.
  • Participates in the development of and adherence to EI departmental policies and procedures related to Early Intervention.
  • Plans and schedules home visits to meet needs of the families in cooperation with Director and adheres to the schedule as determined.
  • Handles emergencies or program concerns and reports the incident to the Director as soon as possible.
  • Obtains and submits documentation for pre-service, mandatory annual 24 hours of early intervention continuing education, and mandatory HNA trainings (i.e. Child CPR, First Aid techniques, fire safety, emergency evacuation, infection control, orientation to the EI system, cultural competence, mandatory reporting, mediation, procedural safeguards, etc).
  • Collaborates with agencies involved with the family (educational, social services, consultants, etc.) to provide maximum effort toward a comprehensive delivery of service.
  • Meets or exceeds EI productivity standards as well as adheres to other budget standards related to expense and revenue.
  • Plan strategies and activities.
  • Consults with therapist(s) and other team members on individual child-related activities to assure consistent delivery of service.
  • Ensures staff and customer safety by resolving and/or reporting all safety issues and injuries to the Director.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Child Development or related field. Teaching Certificate I preferred.
  • Prior experience working with children is preferred.
  • Competency in computer skills in a Windows based environment. Demonstrate ability to perform computer skills in specialized computer application(s) as needed.
  • Access to transportation in the Agency service area with valid Pennsylvania driver's license and auto liability insurance.
    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    Child CPR required.
