JOB DESCRIPTION:
To assist with the school food service program in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations, local and state health ordinances, and school district policies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform work in the school food service facility in accordance with regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare and serve food with the highest standards of sanitation.
  • Communicate effectively with the public, staff members, students, parents, administrators and other contact persons using tact and good judgment.
  • Perform major cleaning of equipment and storerooms at regularly scheduled intervals as designated by the CNP Manager.
  • Assume responsibility for storage and disposal of unused foods.
  • Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  • Model and maintain high ethical standards.
  • Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events
  • Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
  • Demonstrate support for Alabaster City Schools with its goals and priorities.
  • Participate in cross-training activities and identify potential problems or opportunity for improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Have a current Food Handler Permit from the Jefferson County Department of Health or have ServSafe Certification.
  • Annual Physician's Health form and tuberculin test (TB).
  • Must have basic knowledge of methods of quantity food preparation and serving, use and care of kitchen equipment and utensils, food service safety, principles of sanitation and basic reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Must have the ability to prepare and serve a wide variety of food-soups, entrees, sandwiches, fruits, vegetables, salads, breads, desserts and beverages. Work rapidly and efficiently in performing tasks, work positively and effectively with students and school personnel. Follow written job assignments, recipes, and oral instructions. Apply and maintain Health Department and USDA standards of sanitation and personal hygiene and be able to keep records.
  • Physical abilities includes manual dexterity to shred, chop, assemble, and mix foods. Stamina to stand and walk on hard flooring for long periods of time, bend, stoop, lift, carry and reach over head. Ability to withstand a wide range of temperatures and work with chemical cleaning agents. Having strength to lift and carry food items or objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and to perform any assigned task dictated by the physical layout of the cafeteria facility.
