Position Summary

Southwest Region (SWR) - La Crosse or Madison
Project Managers (La Crosse only)- This position acts as a Project Manager in all phases the design and construction of transportation improvement projects. This includes conducting activities related to scoping, developing, monitoring, and reporting project schedules, budgets, issues and resources necessary for the delivery of multiple design project plans, specifications and estimates (PSE) and construction project administration. The Project Manager has primary responsibility for overall project quality.

Local Program Manager - This position is responsible for the oversight and delivery of the Local Program. The role of the Local Program Project Manager is to oversee and manage the activities carried out by department and consultant staff and ensures all requirements to utilize federal funds are followed in the design phase.

Project Development (Major Studies) - T his position is responsible for producing consultant and in-house major complex corridor studies utilizing sound planning and engineering practices. These studies develop environmentally acceptable transportation alternatives that address the concerns of the general public and elected officials. Products of these studies include location study reports, Alpha studies, Special Planning related studies and final environmental impact statements that result in enumeration of transportation projects in the state budget. Extensive cooperation with local units of government and other Federal and State agencies is required in these duties.

Program Controls Quality Assurance Engineer - The essential function of this position is to provide specialized engineering guidance, direction, and coordination to ensure uniformity and accuracy in the construction phase of the Region's transportation improvement program across both regional offices. This position is required to have an advanced understanding of the Department's construction administration process and procedure specific to the Standard Specifications and Contruction and Materials Manual. This position also requires strong Facilities Development Manual knowledge; reading and mathematics comprehension; along with technical writing, teaching, communication, analytical, computer, and dissemination of information skills; and the knowledge to apply the highest degree of specialized engineering principles.

Construction Quality Assurance Engineer - As the Construction QA this position will review design plans for constructability to prevent change orders and claims, assist in meeting the estimate accuracy performance measure. This position will also be responsible for leading the active management of the effort to meet the Regions Finals Completion Performance Measure. This position also assists the Regions other Project Managers in negotiating and processing construction change orders. This position is also critical in the knowledge transfer to less experienced staff The position provides support for construction staff on construction issues as they arise and provides technical training throughout the year.

Safety Engineer (Madison only) - This position performs a variety of traffic engineering tasks. The responsibilities of this position typically involve independently responsible for retrieving, analyzing and disseminating crash information in the interest of overall highway safety, represent the Department at various internal and external meetings (including county traffic safety meetings), and work closely with other units in the traffic area.

Maintenance Engineer (Madison only) - This position is responsible for engineering expertise pertaining to highway maintenance. This position provides engineering direction and guidance and performs the most complex functions of a professional engineering nature in highway and bridge maintenance activities. This position serves as the primary engineer for all aspects pertaining to winter maintenance in the assigned geographic area within the Southwest Region including policy decisions and media exposure. In addition to being responsible for field surveys, reviews, and plan specification reviews of all state highway projects, this position assists the maintenance supervisor in the development of the highway maintenance program .

Salary Information

This position is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $88,296 - $106,808, plus excellent benefits. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

Travel up to 25% of the time may be required.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have the following at the time of application:
  • A valid Professional Engineering registration and be able to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if PE registration is from another state
