Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy COO or designee, he/she functions as a division Clerical III Inpatient Clerk.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Inpatient clerks are clerical support to the clinical staff ensuring timely discharges, scanning, faxing, ensuring follow-up appointments, update patient demographics.
• Ensure unit telephones and patient call bell system are answered timely. Follow up on provider/nurse request for contact with family members when directed.
• Ensure and follow up on work orders for repairs, supplies, and maintenance. Conduct daily rounds to maintain the environment of care standards are met.
• Communicate with the Operations Center to ensure bed assignment and report delays in discharges/reasons. Make sure Bill of Rights packages are distributed to patients.
• Ensure (24) hour discharge notices are distributed to patients and followed up when requested with the clinical staff. Communicate with clinical staff to ensure compliance/fallouts.
• Follow of on all Transportation request. Contact patient's insurance provider when there is an issue with approvals.
• Follow up with clerical staff regarding follow up appointments and contact the Ambulatory Care or designee with problems regarding ensuring appointments for patients being discharged.
• Maintain a log on all 1- 2 -6 Code as directed and monitor telephones during the 1- 2- 6 Code.
• Ensure specimens are picked up timely. Ensure telegrams/visitors restrictions and other items are sent to the appropriate staff/departments.
• Maintains compliance with infection control
• Ensures a safe and secure environment free of hazards to reduce the risk of injury to all customers (patients, visitors and, staff).
• Knowledge of diversity in the workplace.
• Participates in the Performance Improvement activities.
• Dresses in a professional manner.
• Utilizes the EPIC system to correct/obtain patient's demographical information.
• Participates in team-building activities. Always practice ICARE Model
• Ensures compliance with yearly mandates.
• Review transportation requests prior to approval with the goal of decreasing the number of bills to hospital authorizations.
• Report discharges to the Operations Center on each tour to the Operations Director or designee.
• Ensure patients/family members concerns are directed to the interdisciplinary team in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A high school diploma or its educational equivalent; and
2. Six (6) months of full-time satisfactory clerical experience and/or experience interacting with the public, such as processing sales; taking, processing, and delivering orders; obtaining and dispensing information; listening to and resolving customers concerns, problems, and complaints; and/or performing related customer service activities.
