Clinical Assistant Professor - School of Health Sciences
Salisbury, Maryland
Employer: Salisbury University
Industry: Faculty
Salary: Competitive
Job type: Full-Time
Salisbury University, a member of the University System of Maryland, is a regionally accredited four-year comprehensive institution offering 62 distinct graduate and undergraduate programs. Located on the historic Eastern Shore, SU's beautiful campus is some 30 miles from the Atlantic beaches and 2.5 hours from Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
Job Summary
This is a FTNTT faculty position.
This position will support the new Health Science major which has seen substantial growth in one year alone. The Health Science major aligns with SU's strategic plan, goal 1 (Enrich Academic Success and Student Development with Strategies 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.5.1 and others), goal 3 (Support Access, Affordability and Academic Excellence with Strategies 3.1.1 and 3.1.2).
This faculty position request is integral to the success of the new Health Science major. This major has attracted students from its beginning (Fall 2022). The current enrollments as compared with the initial projected resources and expenditures from the USM proposal reveal the need for the position. There are currently 86 students in the major, far exceeding the projected # of students by Year 2 (n=18, 1 FTE). This also surpasses our Year 5 projection of 50 students where we projected the need for 1.67 FTE faculty. A new faculty position is required to take over the responsibilities currently performed by the school director. This new position would include dedicated reassigned time to serve as the program director with advising and teaching responsibilities in the program. Faculty are needed to teach the internship, and the introductory course which is currently taught by an Exercise Science faculty member who is needed in that program.
The new position impacts 1 undergraduate degree program (B.S. in Health Science), as well as general elective credits and new courses to be developed in the Health Sciences (e.g. First Year Seminar, Experiential Learning courses). Given the exponential (and unanticipated) growth in this new major, it is critical to stabilize the staffing structure to support current and future student success. This Health Science major could become a signature program at SU given the versatility of the curriculum.
Authority and Accountability
This position will report to Dr. Margarita Treuth, Director of the School of Health Sciences, will have no direct reports, and have no budgetary responsibility.
Required/Minimum Qualifications
Doctoral degree in a health-related clinical field. Candidate must have certification or licensure within the health professions field, a minimum of two years of professional experience, and possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
University teaching experience. The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience providing effective teaching strategies which enhance the success of diverse learners, and experience with innovative teaching approaches.
Visit our website www.salisbury.edu/hr/careers/ to apply online. First consideration will be given to applications received by April 11, 2024. The position will remain open until filled. Only applications submitted through Salisbury University's Online Employment Application System will be considered. Any other documents must be uploaded with your online application. No documents will be accepted via e-mail. Three professional references will be requested and required before the final stages of the search. Candidates will be notified prior to references being contacted.
