POSITION SUMMARY:

Under direction of the Regional Director and Regional Clinical Education Services Department, the Clinical Education Specialist oversees Clinical and Education Service activities for the local service area. Represents AMR to local committees, medical and training institutions, and other related agencies. Responsible for the creation, implementation, and tracking of education programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for mentoring the local CES professionals on an ongoing basis, with the goal of developing a team-oriented approach with positive results. Complies with all employment laws and supports affirmative action/equal opportunity goals.
  • Provides guidance and direction to the local CES professionals within the operation, maintaining a consistent approach to clinical education and processes.
  • Develops and oversees Agency Medical Director initiatives.
  • Oversees and assists in recruitment through involvement in area EMS classes and career days.
  • Actively participates in and/or develops a process for the evaluation and/or selection of equipment.
  • Develops educational processes to include course objectives, examinations, and manuals for use as lesson plans.
  • Oversight of all training programs, including but not limited to Earn While You Learn Academy (EWYL), New Employee Orientation Program (NEOP), and American Heart Association (AHA) programs.
  • Works with local physician advisory groups.
  • Participates in clinical aspects of problem resolution.
  • Oversees any clinical requirements related to contracts, agreements, etc.
  • Oversees clinical aspects of field performance.
  • Tracks and reviews events in response to complaints and/or compliments relating to medical performance.
  • Conducts and oversees clinical quality assurance investigations, immediately upon receiving information regarding a possible protocol or standard of care violation. Provides timely briefings to the Operations Manager and the Regional Manager of Clinical Operations on incidents and investigations, as appropriate.
  • Responsible for tracking and maintaining employee certifications.
  • Identifies, develops, and implements quality improvement (QI) programs. In order to assure clinical excellence, programs should include but are not limited to: proactive and retrospective elements of QI concerning clinical call reviews, chart reviews, and trend analysis for both individual and group clinical performance. Such programs should drive the continuing education (CE) process and related courses offered to field personnel.
  • Represents AMR with local EMS education programs and assures integration with internship and preceptor needs.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for field and management personnel.
  • Assists in the creation/revision of clinical policy.
  • Represents AMR with local EMS education programs.
  • Reviews completed patient care reports for accuracy.
  • Participates in corporate initiatives.
  • Provides clinical support for documentation and billing personnel.
  • Participates in appeals processes from a clinical perspective.
  • Oversight and maintenance of all clinical aspects of agency certifications, including but not limited to: CAAS, NYS DOH, and CLIA.
  • Responsible for all clinical reporting at the local, state, and national levels.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to and complies with all information systems policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Licensing/Certification:
  • Preferred - New York State Certified Instructor Coordinator (CIC) - must complete within 1 st year following appointment to the position.
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Current State Certification as a Paramedic
  • Driving record that passes AMR's National Safety policy requirements

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in the direct delivery of pre-hospital advanced life support as a Paramedic
  • Experience in performing, evaluating, instructing, and coaching all aspects of the delivery of pre-hospital care
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
