Job Description

SCOPE OF POSITION
Clinical Instructor, Academic Nursing Program works under the direct supervision of the hospital site Nurse Leader of the Nursing Program in collaboration with the academic institution Director of the Nursing Program for the implementation of the approved curriculum based on the mission and philosophy of the nursing program and the College.
Provides students with opportunities to acquire the knowledge and practice the skills identified in the course objectives using varied and appropriate teaching methods in the clinical practice setting. Plans learning activities to meet program outcomes based on the standards set by policies, legal and other regulatory requirements, and acceptable practices. Participates in the program evaluation and continuous improvement process. Engages in personal professional development and provides documentation of professional development to the nursing program leader annually if required. Complete adjunct orientation and nursing program related professional development. Discusses student progress and student concerns and/or problems directly or indirectly related to the learning experience. Responsible to assist the student to develop an understanding of values, attitudes, and ideals appropriate to the health care profession. Participates in faculty meetings, both formally and informally with didactic and clinical faculty members. Responsible for producing and distributing course learning objectives and student schedules prior to student attendance at facility. Ensures that students perform only skills or services in direct patient care for which they have received instruction and have been found proficient by the instructor. Provides direct supervision of student groups in clinical areas (maintains presence in clinical area where students are assigned). Coordinates with nursing staff in clinical patient care areas to make student assignments taking into consideration student level/competency, patient acuity, clinical course objectives, and facility staff input. Orients students to the clinical area, and demonstrates proper procedure performance. Leads discussions and elicits information from students which demonstrate students are learning and accomplishing course objectives. Maintains nursing program policies, clinical standards and course expectations through each course or term. Submits program required documentation of individual students' learning as required by the nursing program. Works effectively as part of the overall faculty demonstrating positive interpersonal relations, collaborating with other faculty members to meet student needs, participating in faculty meetings and committees, and responding to requests from management. Participates in ongoing program evaluation activities as needed. Maintain faculty expectations as required by the nursing program. Demonstrates proper respect for students, faculty and staff and has student-friendly manner in the conduct of class. Effective inter-professional collaboration with all members of the health care team. Consistently demonstrate the highest level of integrity and professionalism. Maintains professional practice knowledge base needed to instruct learners in contemporary nursing practice. Maintains regular communication with the course coordinator throughout the course semester. Must maintain all clinical agency health care requirements. Complies with OSHA, TOSHA, HIPAA, and FERPA requirements and regulations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from an accredited Nursing program, Master's preferred. Two years in the practice of nursing as a RN required. Concentration/experience in clinical area of teaching. Previous teaching experience preferred. Must have functional abilities to carry out classroom, clinical and laboratory teaching responsibilities. Must have knowledge and effective use of the computer based student communication system for the college.
Valid and active RN licensure in appropriate state
CPR required
Clinical Specialty certification preferred
