Job Summary
This position is responsible and accountable on a 24/7 basis for the daily clinical and administrative operations of Perioperative Services. This includes clinical oversight, staffing, scheduling, counseling, performance management, educational planning, maintenance of budgeting staffing standards, guidance for nursing practices, and oversight of billing and charging practices. This position provides services for patients of all ages. Interacts directly with physicians in a collaborative effort to facilitate best practice.

Essential Functions
Works with Director in monitoring and improving the quality of services provided in Perioperative Services.Supports and promotes SRH's Mission and Values.Attends management meetings as required.Supports and communicates change in a positive manner.Encourages open and positive employee relations.Assists with training and preceptorships.Assists Director by providing input into capital and operational budget planning.Assists in review, revision, implementation of policies and procedures, structure standards, protocols, standards of practice and care plans.Plans for the staffing needs of the department.Understands SRH's organizational structure and follows chain of command.Acts as a resource person within Perioperative Services.Integrates the Balanced Scorecard principles into daily operations.Promotes teamwork with other departments.Assists Director in meeting the requirements/standards of DNV and other accrediting and regulatory bodies.Works on special projects as assigned.Responsible for the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of lean projects in the department with the support of the Director and Quality management. Lead a minimum of two lean projects annually.Assists with development of patient/family education programs as needed. Instructs and mentors staff in ongoing use of educational resources.Works with the Education department to meet the in service educational needs and goals for Day Surgery and PACU.Seeks input from the Director regarding interviewing and decisions pertaining to hiring.Assists Director in responding quickly to physician related issues.Reviews documentation for accuracy.Ensures staff schedules are completed and posted in a timely manner.Works with Director in determining appropriate staff counseling and corrective action as needed.Completes performance reviews and other administrative paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.Ensures that timely action is taken relative to equipment and systems repairs within the department. Promptly notifies biomedical repair, engineering, environmental services and vendors, as necessary.Assists with ensuring compliance with productivity standards and staffing guidelines.Remains aware of staff workload, advises, teaches or assists as needed.Reviews and approves Kronos timecards as required.Maintains fiscal responsibility by monitoring and adjusting staffing utilization during guidelines and sounds clinical judgment.Complies with all SRH Policies and Procedures.Performs other duties as assigned by Director.

Education
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN or Bachelors degree in related field preferred, Masters preferred.

Experience/Training
Registered nurse with a minimum of five years experience in Surgical Services. Minimum 2 years supervisory experience required. Prior management experience recommended.

License/Certifications
Must maintain current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Washington. Current American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS required.

Interpersonal skills, good written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with physicians, nursing personnel, and other health care professionals and staff. Effective leadership skills required. Demonstrated emotional stability and maturity. Knowledge of general nursing theory required with advanced technical and clinical knowledge of areas of responsibility.

This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds.
