Job Summary:

Under the administrative direction of the Nurse Director, the Clinical Nurse Manager identifies, develops, and oversees policies and procedures that support excellence in clinical practice and fosters an environment of care which

reflects the mission and vision of Newton-Wellesley Hospital. As a leader, the Clinical Nurse Manager is responsible for supporting and maintaining quality standards of nursing care and practice within the clinical area.

The Clinical Nurse Manager participates in and maintains a collaborative relationship with all disciplines and departments within the organization to create positive patient outcomes, to meet the needs of the unit and the staff, as well as, support and maintain a professional practice environment.

The Clinical Nurse Manager, in collaboration with the Nurse Director, is responsible for the recruitment and retention of employees and the partnering with the medical leadership to support organizational and departmental goals.

Essential Functions:

Maintains NWH CAREfirst standards of behavior while working toward accomplishing the hospital goals and meeting our customers' expectations.

Effectively communicates the mission and values of Newton-Wellesley Hospital to staff and patients.

Assists in developing departmental short-term goals in concert with the organizational goals.

Clinical Operations Management

• Assists with the implementation and evaluation of nursing practices and the delivery of patient care

• Assists with setting priorities in coordinating patient care services and unit activitie

• Solves problems and manages conflicts in a timely, efficient, and effective manner

• Promotes an environment for learning and team building

• Assists in the design and implementation of staffing patterns responsive to a dynamic care environment

• Participates on hospital committee

• Presides and/or participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings and other meetings as required

• Promotes collaboration among staff, medical, and administrative colleague

• Communicates with the other departments to assure needed services are provided

• Rounds regularly on staff and patient

• Serves as a clinical resource in the delivery of patient care

• Acts as a change agent and supports staff through the change proce

• Identifies and addresses staff, patient, and family issues and concern

Quality Assurance/Quality Management

• Collaborates with the Nurse Director and other departments/disciplines to develop and maintain ongoing quality improvement and patient safety activitie

• Identifies opportunities for improving nursing practice

• Monitors and evaluates the documentation of nursing practice and patient care

• Encourages and facilitates staff participation in quality improvement activitie

• Participates in the resolution of patient/family complaint

• Promotes and supports service excellence and patient satisfaction

• Assists in maintaining and implementing department policies and procedures in accordance with Joint Commission, DPH, and other regulatory agencie

• Assists in follow up on safety report

• Ensures a safe environment for patient and staff

• Assists in the development, promotion, and support of employee engagement initiative

Human Resources Management

• Provides leadership and direction for the staff

• Assists in recruiting and retaining competent and compassionate staff

• Assists is overseeing the orientation process for new employee

• Delegates to and supervises staff effectively

• Coaches and mentors staff

• Identifies own learning needs and areas for growth

• Assists with the development of educational program

• Uses behavioral questioning and the peer interviewing process for the recruitment and retention of competent and compassionate staff

• Identifies staff competency and learning needs and supports their development

• Collaborates with the Nurse Director to establish work schedules and assigns staff to specified areas of responsibility

• Collaborates with the Nurse Director on recruitment, retention, and other employee related issue

• Prepares performance appraisal documents in accordance with hospital policy and procedure

• Serves as a role model for accountability and professional performance

• Holds self and staff to hospital standard

• Takes corrective and/or disciplinary action when appropriate

Finance Management

• Assists with the preparation of the department's annual operating and capital budget

• Assists in monitoring staffing patterns based on annual budget

• Assists in the development of plans to enhance revenue production and/or decrease cost

• Assists with the review of departmental productivity reports and develops variance summarie

• Submits weekly payroll

• Follows purchasing and requisition requests policie

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• Current RN license in the Commonwealth of Massachusett

• Minimum 3 years nursing experience

• Demonstrated leadership ability required; management experience preferred

• Demonstrated and consistent skills in communication, organization, team building, priority setting, customer service, problem solving, and time management

• Specialty experience and certification preferred

• BSN required, Master's degree preferred

• CPR training required

• Evidence of continuing education

• Competence with Microsoft Office applications, Excel, Word. PowerPoint
