This position is the Clinical Program Manager for Ancillary & Individual (A&I) in the Employer & Individual UnitedHealthcare segment. The Clinical Program Manager is responsible for supporting the development and/or ongoing management and administration of clinical initiatives including implementation support, measurement, and risk mitigation. Accountability includes collecting and evaluating data and information to identify best practices and processes, identify and prioritize potential risks, and partner with A&I clinical leaders to develop plans to ensure milestones and key deliverables are completed on time. Responsibility extends to organizing and facilitating virtual and in-person meetings, and the development of status reports, executive dashboards, and presentations. This role requires a growth mindset, resourcefulness and resilience, agility, flexibility, and the ability to adapt to change while maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders in a highly cross-matrixed environment. The Clinical Program Manager will report to the Chief Medical Officer & Senior Vice President for Ancillary & Individual (A&I)/Global.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Clinical team and leadership to drive timelines and plans for the design, development, and implementation of clinical initiatives for the A&I businesses
  • Develops, translates, and executes strategies or functional/operational objectives for A & I Clinical
  • Ownership of key clinical affordability projects. Utilize standard project plan templates incorporating Enterprise-wide affordability tools and road maps modifying to meet A & I requirements. Responsible for all status updates and reporting associated with these projects
  • Investigate new opportunities for affordability tactics by reviewing data/current initiatives and research for potential consideration for A & I clients. Present and champion recommendations to leadership
  • Create overall program/process frameworks based on information, input, data, and relevant subject matter expertise to identify best practices and opportunities for improvement
  • Review, create, and/or maintain workflows as part of the client management and or projects
  • Use a process driven approach to identify root cause and mitigate risks
  • Drive optimizations of clinical processes to ensure clinical quality and keeping cost at a minimum, using six sigma and other quality methodologies
  • Analyze and consult on benefit cost ratio (BCR); prevalence rates; unit cost reduction trend (UCRT) to determine which programs to implement and/or modify (determine pmpm savings for clients and pmpm cost of implementation if applicable)
  • Accountable for ensuring seamless implementation of initiatives that will impact clinical management
  • Evaluate processes and outcomes against benchmarks and metrics and identify potential business impacts of current state
  • Leverage clinical acumen and/or claims and coding expertise to provide guidance to staff (e.g., disease state, health conditions)
  • Identify opportunities to increase efficiencies or effectiveness and recommended program implementation or process changes
  • Manage upcoming milestones, identify potential risks. and develop mitigation plans with A&I clinical leaders
  • Directs and leads interactions with partner teams such as benefits, Network, Sales to resolve highly complex or unusual business problems that affect major functions or disciplines
  • Assist internal and/or external business partners with completion of tasks and resolution of issues and problems with program implementation
  • Identify resources (e.g., funding; staffing, etc) required to implement programs. Work in partnership with Clinical Leadership to develop
  • Establish and facilitate meetings, regularly develop and present updates to senior clinical leaders
  • Review, create, and/or maintain workflows as part of the management and or projects, as required
  • Develop and maintain documents including executive dashboards, executive reports, presentations, and other strategic deliverables
  • Provide consultation or creation of clinical playbooks or other best practice tools
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to drive successful execution

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of project and/or program management experience: Identifying critical path, tracking, driving partners and projects to deliver within the targets, manage escalations, executive and program presentations/communications
  • Experience using a process driven approach to problem solving (e.g., DMAIC method, Six Sigma, Paredo charts)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Teams
  • Exceptional relationship skills with a proven ability to quickly build and maintain solid relationships across diverse functions and leaders
  • Executive-level verbal and written communication skills applied to external audiences as well as internal audiences
  • Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting medical and financial data, with the ability to translate data into meaningful/actionable information
  • Proven strategic analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • End-to-end understanding of medical cost management
  • Proficient with SharePoint
  • Enthusiastic self-starter, willing to identify disorganization and bring the right partners together to promote clarity of purpose and next steps
  • Ability to communicate and present effectively, listen actively and attentively to others, and convey genuine interest
  • Team player and solid ability to work with other teams across A&I businesses, UHC, and the UHG enterprise

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable.
