The Division of Psychology/Neuropsychology in collaboration with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Women's Institute are seeking a psychologist to join our growing team. Role is a clinically focused position, serving on multidisciplinary teams within our NICU and Maternal Fetal Medicine inpatient units. Primary clinical responsibilities include inpatient consultation, screenings for trauma and Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, individual and group evidenced based intervention, neurodevelopmental assessment for NICU patients. Position includes opportunities for program development, research, and clinical training of post-doctoral fellows/ residents.

Additional information regarding position:

  • Screening and assessment of psychological issues common in the NICU and perinatal populations, including anxiety and mood disorders, acute and posttraumatic stress, role transition, interpersonal problems, infant bonding and attachment, substance use, and sleep difficulties.
  • Communication, collaborative feedback, and case conceptualization of parental mental health concerns and psychoeducation.
  • Evidence-based individual interventions to reduce heightened levels of parental stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns.
  • Consultation with multidisciplinary staff in the management of infant's family members regarding a wide range of emotional responses to premature delivery, loss, and infant illness
  • Collaboration with the Palliative Care team and Chaplin team to provide support to families during and after significant medical crises or the death of a fetus or newborn.
  • Recommendations and facilitation to community referrals for mental health concerns and psychosocial supports.

The Fetal Care Center Team of USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and TGH includes highly skilled and caring professionals who provide specialized care for mothers whose pregnancies are complicated by illness or fetal abnormality.

The Jennifer Leigh Muma Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Tampa General Hospital is an 82 bed, level 3 unit providing specialized care to the most fragile infants.

Some special services our NICU offers includes management of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy with whole body hypothermia therapy, nitric oxide therapy, mechanical ventilation including high frequency oscillator therapy, management of metabolic and genetic disorders, and dialysis (peritoneal and hemodialysis).

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited doctoral program, including an APA accredited internship.
  • Licensed/license eligible in the State of Florida
  • Postdoctoral fellowship training in clinical health psychology or pediatric psychology
  • Training in perinatal mood disorders and neonatal conditions
  • Experience with multidisciplinary medical teams
  • Ability to speak Spanish is desirable but not required
