GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The clinical research coordinator will be involved in studies of the human brain looking at pathological differences between healthy controls and patient populations. Specifically, we are interested epigenetic mechanisms involved in diseases such as Parkinson's disease and Alcohol Use disorder. We use a simultaneous positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI) scanner at The Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging (Martinos Center), Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). Work will be performed under direct supervision of senior staff and the Principal Investigator (PI).

The clinical research coordinator will oversee and coordinate the recruitment, enrollment, and imaging of patients and healthy volunteers using PET/MR. This includes volunteer recruitment and eligibility screening, scheduling scan sessions, assisting with scan preparation, and operating PET/MRI scanner. The clinical research coordinator will also maintain Institutional Review Board protocols and documentation for human subject's research. Other responsibilities include MRI and PET data management, data preprocessing and analysis, and assisting with administrative tasks.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintains study regulatory compliance and required documentation

• Assists with technical set-up of equipment

• Performs data acquisition for research studie

• Recruits and screens potential research subjects for study eligibility, including some who are patients in the hospital

• Schedules all study visit

• Ensures volunteers understand study materials including consent form

• Manages data and performs quality assurance

• Assists with manuscript drafting, preparation of scientific presentations, journal publications, teaching materials, and grant proposal

• Complies with HIPPA regulations and subject confidentiality

• Assists in data collection, analysis, and report generation

• Works on other duties and assigned projects as they come up periodically

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

• Ability to work independently and with team member

• High degree of motivation and self-sufficiency

• Excellent judgment and ability to understand and implement information and protocol requirement

• Excellent organizational skills to formulate and complete vigorous timetables and meet grant deadline

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

• Excellent interpersonal skill

• Strong quantitative skill

• Attention to detail

• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and handle fluctuating priorities and deadline

• Good communication skill

• Sensitivity towards patients and volunteer

• Comfort working with patients from a variety of background

Ability to work independently and as a team player

Analytical skills and ability to resolve technical problem

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES PREFERRED:

Familiar with one or more of the following are assets but not required: Linux/UNIX, MATLAB, FreeSurfer, FSL, PET, MRI

Ability to interpret acceptability of data results

Working knowledge of data management programs

Scanning experience (of any kind) preferred but not required

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree required.


EXPERIENCE:

  • New graduates with some relevant course/project work in psychology, neuroscience, statistics, medicine, or related disciplines, preferably with some prior research experience will be considered for the Clinical Research Coordinator I position outlined above.
  • Excellent research opportunity for someone bound for graduate school or medical school.
  • Preferred: 1 year of prior experience in clinical research, brain research, or imaging research

  • Work location will be at Bldg.149, located in the Charlestown Navy Yard.
