PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Design and implement secure, scalable, and highly available cloud reference architectures that drive application deployments in a cloud environment. Responsible for setting and maintaining cloud architecture standards for Sedgwick's cloud environments. Collaborates with other architects, operational/infrastructure, and delivery teams to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture direction and standards. Provides guidance on major architectural designs for product roadmaps to ensure consistency, security, maintainability, and flexibility across system, technical, and product architectures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Produce and maintain cloud reference architecture documents for building and deploying complex and secure cloud-based applications, considering factors like data privacy, access controls, and encryption.
  • Consult with cloud engineering teams to ensure designs and deployments comply with published cloud reference architecture.
  • Develop strategies for migrating on-premises applications/solutions into the cloud in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Evaluate cloud solution designs for best practices, cost-effectiveness, scalability, and security; provide alternative design recommendations when necessary.
  • Define best practices around cloud administration including deployment, monitoring, and alerting in coordination with relevant groups.
  • Conduct technical audits of existing cloud deployments to ensure adherence to current cloud architecture standards.
  • Collaborate with the cloud FinOps team to identify cost reduction opportunities and develop ongoing cost-saving strategies.
  • Assist in troubleshooting efforts during cloud-related outages.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education & Licensing:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in information management, computer science, or a related technology field; or comparable technical institute certification or equivalent work experience. Technical certifications such as Certified IT Architect (CITA), Certified Enterprise Architect (CEA), Microsoft Cloud Platform and Infrastructure (MCSE), or AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional are a plus.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience spanning at least three disciplines (systems architecture, network architecture, enterprise architecture, datacenter architecture), with at least 3-4 years of experience in cloud solutions architecture. Experience with multi-cloud environments is preferred, with a focus on implementing Microsoft Azure enterprise solutions. Must demonstrate proven ability to architect highly complex scalable cloud solutions across a global enterprise.
  • Skills & Knowledge:
    • 4-5 years of hands-on experience in designing and configuring secure and scalable cloud platform patterns on Azure. Additional experience with AWS is a plus.
    • Experience implementing and supporting Microsoft Azure infrastructure and topologies (Operations Management Suite, Application Insights, Azure App Services, Azure SQL Databases, Azure Site Recovery, Azure Backup, Security Center, Azure Networking, Azure Storage, Azure Automation).
    • Proficiency with scripting technologies (PowerShell, Bash, Python, Azure Resource Manager Templates, Desired State Configuration, JSON).
    • Networking experience (routing, protocols, subnets, SDNs, network topologies, DNS, Load Balancers).
    • Experience with infrastructure as code tools and engineering practices (Terraform, Ansible, ARM).
    • Experience with Microservices and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
    • Fluency in one or more scripting languages (Python, Perl, or similar).
    • Experience with CI/CD tools and engineering practices (Jenkins, Octopus, Azure DevOps).
    • Experience with monitoring, alerting, and pipeline analysis tools.
    • Strong documentation skills including creating detailed reference architecture diagrams.
    • Demonstrable experience in architecting, designing, and implementing high-volume, high-availability cloud applications with a high degree of automation.
    • Ability to maintain a strategic long-term outlook while supporting business-driven IT solutions.
    • Strong critical thinking, analytical decision-making, and project management skills.
    • Excellent oral and written communication, including presentation skills.
    • Versatility, flexibility, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
    • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
    • Customer service approach to complex technical issues and solutions.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and meet or exceed performance competencies.
