GENERAL SUMMARY:

Position supports manufacturing and engineering by performing production machining; operates Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine, or manual mills, and lathe, to rough and finish machine castings, as well as final target machining on castings to meet customer and PCC specifications. Position performs a variety of functions throughout any given day including target machining, CMM operation, and tool repair.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Produces quality castings without mutilation and in compliance with customer specifications.
  • Reviews and follows tech cards, set-up cards and tooling sheets.
  • Tests tool offsets and controller program functions.
  • Calls up program, fixtures most parts and starts CNC machine operations.
  • Sets up and runs multiple machines for programs that run without operations to make efficient use of time.
  • Communicates potential problems to supervisor and suggests corrective actions.
  • Ensures that equipment is in good operating condition for oncoming shift personnel; communicates problems, techniques, and deviations from normal procedures to oncoming shift personnel.
  • Complete logs and records.
  • Cross-trained in CMM and performs CMM job duties as needed based on business needs.
  • Responsible for safe work practices by adhering to safety rules; identifies and reports safety problems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.


  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow specifications on tech cards, blueprints, and drawings.
  • Basic trigonometry knowledge.
  • Proficient at utilizing manual mills, as well as the lathe to complete a variety of tasks.
  • Ability to utilize rotary table, in absence of CNC utilization.
  • Ability to learn and run CMM
  • Knowledge of tooling and setup procedures; tool and cutter sharpening ability.
  • Ability to work independently and meet timeline schedules.
  • Ability to read and use dimensional tools.
  • Knowledge of Fanuc programming (CNC only)
  • Ability to communicate effectively; recognize, evaluate and respond to problems during the machining process.
  • Ability to work in a safe and conscientious manner; adhere to safety rules.
  • Ability to work varying shifts and overtime as needed.


  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    High school diploma or equivalent. Basic trigonometry and algebra knowledge. Minimum of two years' CNC or CMM machining experience or equivalent education and experience strongly preferred. Manual milling experience, including lathe set-up and operation required.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Ability to stand and walk to perform daily job functions. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Ability to exert up to seventy-five pounds of force to lift and move objects. Ability to work in an environment with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and varying temperatures.
