Job Summary:

The Compliance Analyst implements a comprehensive program for the disclosure and handling of potential Conflicts of Interest (COI) for university faculty and staff. The Compliance Analyst supports the COI compliance program through creating, collecting, and analyzing data and reports; performing reviews of disclosure information in the context of specific research activities; initiating and applying new procedures as necessary to ensure that NUCOI operates at optimum effectiveness and efficiency; and implementing a university-wide compliance program to verify a variety of compliance requirements associated with COI. This position serves as a resource to faculty and staff regarding COI policies, processes, and systems.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Review and analyze a consistently large volume of faculty and staff conflict of interest disclosures, utilizing knowledge of University policies and practices, federal requirements, and exceptionally sound judgment to make assessments of relationships and their potential impacts. Maintain a strict level of confidentiality related to job activities.
  • Create, generate, analyze, and maintain standard and specialized spreadsheets and prepare queries, reports, statistics, tables, charts, etc. based on information compiled from various systems and sources to track specific information and trends relating to COI processes.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of federal, sponsor, and institutional policy and process requirements for faculty, staff, and research COI. Administer internal procedures for Northwestern's COI program, including disclosure solicitation, review, disposition, and compliance monitoring for faculty, staff, and research COI matters.
  • Maintain exceptional proficiency in the University's conflict of interest (COI) system and related research management systems, including use of the myHR, InfoEd, eIRB and other systems as required. Independently provide timely, professional, and exceptional policy, process, and system guidance and support via phone and email in an effort to ensure faculty and staff satisfaction.
  • Identify the need for, create, and deliver education to guide and support faculty and staff in the University's COI processes and systems.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • At least three years of experience in a higher education, healthcare, or business environment.
  • Experience working with and analyzing large sets of data and information.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and apply new concepts to become proficient in interpreting and applying COI regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of high-quality customer service to various audiences.
  • Experience working in a high-paced, deadline-driven environment and effectively managing a challenging workload.

  • Exposure to/awareness of the research, scientific, academic, research administration and/or human research protection program environments.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office - Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
  • Prior experience in a University environment in the areas of research or research administration.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
  • Experience with utilizing advanced functionality in Excel to compile and analyze data
  • Familiarity with University systems, including myHR, CERES and eIRB+.
Target hiring range for this position will be between $63,500 to $67,500 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
