The School of Media & Communications in the College of Creative Arts and Media (CCAM) at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) College Recruitment Specialist.

About the Opportunity

As a (Hybrid) College Recruitment Specialist, you will be responsible for assisting the CCAM Associate Dean of Student Success & Enrollment in activities to recruit and retain students interested in careers in the School of Media & Communications. You will develop and implement recruitment strategies and communication plans in conjunction with the CCAM administration, faculty, and staff and update these plans frequently. You will also assist in recruitment efforts for the School of Art and Design, School of Theater & Dance and the School of Music (within the CCAM) as needed. These responsibilities include overnight travel and work on weekends and evenings.

What You'll Do

Recruitment

  • Provide admissions information and services to prospective students.
  • Research and identify target populations for recruitment and develop visitation schedules; visit in-state and/or out-of-state target schools, agencies or conferences to meet with prospective students, teachers and administrators; coordinate visits for School of Media faculty.
  • Represent the School of Media (CCAM) at college fairs and other WVU recruitment events, including Discover and Decide WVU Days, Distinguished Scholars events, Go First Fridays, and other central events.
  • Discuss School of Media (CCAM) program offerings to prospective students and parents and answer their questions concerning curriculum, enrollment procedures and/or student life.
  • Disseminate timely information via appropriate communication venues to prospective and/or continuing students such as admission, housing and scholarship/financial aid applications.
  • Meet with prospective students and/or parent/guardians on an individual basis (for both on-campus and off-campus events), answer questions, and discuss academic opportunities. Provide on-site tours of School of Media (CCAM) facilities.
  • Plan and organize on-campus School of Media (CCAM) recruitment programs in conjunction with the Associate Dean of Student Success & Enrollment: responsibilities include setting the agenda, obtaining speakers, conducting workshops and coordinating logistics.
  • In conjunction with the Associate Dean of Student Success, develop and implement an annual recruitment plan in support of CCAM and WVU recruiting objectives and goals; develop a program for evaluating and assessing the progress of the School of Media recruitment plan; share plans and programs with the CCAM Administration, faculty and staff.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research, both primary and secondary as needed, on enrollment and enrollment trends and patterns to ensure the School of Media (CCAM) recruits and retains high quality students; share research and data with administrators, faculty and staff.
  • Work closely with campus entities to obtain enrollment and recruitment/admissions data and in turn disseminate that data to administrators, faculty and staff.


Communication

  • Assist in developing recruitment marketing materials such as letters, post-card mailings, brochures, emails, web content and social media communications.
  • Participate in University-sponsored recruitment and communication committee meetings.
  • Effectively correspond with all inquiring, admitted, and deposited students, as part of a targeted communications strategy. This includes working with the CCAM Associate Dean of Student Success, Communications Director, and other pertinent faculty/staff.
  • Develop and execute social media campaigns and projects that align with CCAM goals.
  • Capture video and photo as needed or work with videographers, designers and photographers on an as-needed-basis to develop high-quality visual content.
  • Oversee a vibrant social media student group and build a network of content-creators (students, faculty/staff) to contribute to various platforms.
  • Monitor trends in marketing and social media to help strategize whether it is appropriate for the College to engage.


Outreach

  • Oversee a student ambassador program to assist with recruitment activities, which could include campus tours, social media engagement, emailing and, phone-calling prospective students.
  • Oversee summer Media Camps which bring high school students to campus for immersion programs in current media practice and skill development.
  • Coordinate teacher workshops to build relationships with secondary schools in WV and surrounding states.
  • Coordinate K-12 groups coming to campus for media-related workshops and learning opportunities.


Other

  • Supervise student workers in support of program objectives.
  • Serve in other capacities regarding recruitment issues and events as requested by the Dean or Associate Dean of Student Success.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Journalism, Strategic communications (Advertising or PR) or another applied communications discipline.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in student admissions, advising, recruitment or retention.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience involving:
    • Sales and/or customer service.
    • Familiarity with statistical concepts and analysis.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in professional social media communications
  • Strong organizational skills and a proven ability to work as a team member to accomplish unit goals.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, problem-solve, collaborate, and work independently.
  • Excellent computer skills (writing and data bases).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree.
