West Virginia University Health Science Center is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) College Recruitment Specialist in the School of Pharmacy

About the Opportunity

This position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs and is responsible for execution of the overall student recruitment and matriculation efforts of the School of Pharmacy. The position will coordinate pre-pharmacy, Direct Admit Program and PharmD and some Graduate program recruitment efforts including data collection and assessment relative to those recruitment efforts.

What you'll do:

Recruiting:

  • Implement and execute strategic initiatives for recruiting students into the PharmD degree program.
  • Plan, organize, direct, and participate as needed on and off-campus student candidate visits. Identify and recruit key faculty, staff and current students to participate in recruiting and events, including WVU Open Houses, and WVU face-to-face state-wide events.
  • Collaborate with educational regional recruiters who interface with prospective PharmD candidates.
  • Conduct on-campus personalized visits with prospective students.
  • Determine venues for publicizing and recruiting prospective students.
  • Significant travel (approximately 35% of time) within the state and region to meet with prospective students interested in pursuing the PharmD degree, including participation in WV ACROS.
  • Assist prospective students with the application process, as needed and make referrals to academic and student service support units (e.g., Office of Financial Aid, Housing and Resident Life, Disability Services, etc.)
  • Track and monitor applicants and communicate progress to Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs.
  • In cooperation with the Director of Marketing & Communications, utilize social media to communicate information to prospective students, applicants and admitted students in an effort to connect them with the school prior to matriculation.
  • Participate in the on-campus interview process to enhance student recruitment during the interview process.
  • Work collaboratively as a team member with the other members of the Admissions and Student Affairs Staff.
  • Assist Career Services with Pharmacy career fair and reception.
  • Manage recruitment budget to maximize efforts.
  • Work with the Pharmacy Director of Development and the Coordinator of the Pharmacy Alumni Association to identify and train alumni to assist in recruitment efforts.
  • Organize faculty, staff and students to participate in outreach events.
  • Participate in the WVU Graduate Admissions Committee activities and events.
  • Oversee the Student Ambassador program.
  • Organize recruitment efforts for School of Pharmacy graduate programs to include marketing materials, publicizing and communication.
  • Work closely with other staff and the admissions committee to optimize matriculation of students after having accepted an offer for admission.
  • Assist as a backup for recruiting events for other WVU Health Sciences Schools
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs.


Marketing and Outreach:

  • Identify high schools and universities/college in the state and region that have large percentages of prospective students interested/prepared for pre-health careers, specifically pharmacy.
  • Analyze and research markets for potential student recruitment and develop strategies to enter new markets.
  • Collaborate with the HSC Director of Diversity to create a marketing strategy to increase the number of underrepresented minorities pursuing the PharmD degree.
  • Design and create (in collaboration with the Director of Marketing & Communications) electronic and printed recruitment materials.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Marketing & Communications, monitor and assess social media to determine effectiveness of campaigns.
  • Develop and organize focus groups of prepharmacy and pharmacy students to guide recruitment tactics.
  • Perform analyses to determine commonalities among students who matriculate.
  • Acquire feedback from admitted students who do and do not matriculate. Provide results to Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs.


Research, Assessment and Administrative Duties:

  • Create an assessment tool to determine effectiveness of recruitment activities and make recommendations for changes in activities and events sponsored by the School and University.
  • Monitor national admission and application trends; assist in identification of best practices.
  • Develop, implement and analyze survey instruments to gain information on applicant trends.
  • Serve on University and School committees, task forces and work groups related to recruitment and admission of students (e.g. Key Recruiters)
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills needed for position.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, marketing, business or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of two (2) years: Corporate and/or personal sales, college admissions, recruiting or marketing experience.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of admission records
  • Comply with state, Federal and University regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with internal and external constituents
  • Demonstrated ability to think analytically and creatively to develop effective recruitment strategies and materials.
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Competency in promoting (selling) and persuasion
  • Demonstrated ability to management multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency in data mining application portals
  • Utilization of various social media for the purpose of connecting prospective and admitted students to the School - Proficiency in using Microsoft applications
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently. Assume responsibility and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to estimate recruitment costs, including travel, promotional literature and other expenditures.


  • Valid driver's license. Travel will be required.
