About the role

What will you be responsible for?
  • Responsible for supporting the Global Sales and Marketing team by overseeing reporting and analysis of the sales of products produced from our global operations. This role reports to the Commercial Sales and Marketing, Dore and Value Chain Lead. This position will align budgets, support month-end reporting requirements, engage with auditors, ensure all Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) controls are properly implemented and managed. This role involves monitoring internal and external audits, managing records and governance across product verticals, and supporting reporting out on various standards including the LBMA Responsible Sourcing, World Gold Council's Conflict-Free Gold Standard, ESG reporting and credit management.
  • This role involves creating and managing global integrated reporting tools and dashboards, including monthly and quarterly management reporting and analysis. Additionally, the position contributes to the development and management of tools for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) tracking within Newmont's concentrate value chain. This position ensures Newmont's responsible value-chain strategy follows SOX regulations. As the organizational expert on Sales & Marketing related SOX requirements, this position will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, supporting various internal standards, external requirements, and reporting obligations. Through strategic oversight and collaboration, this position drives excellence in performance, compliance, and sustainability across Newmont's concentrate and Dore value chain.


Your role will consist of

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:
Internal Controls, Compliance, and Reporting:
  • Oversee SOX compliance and ensure globally consistent practices from a Sales and Marketing perspective, contributing to the design, implementation, and testing of effective internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Assist in the development and management of tools to manage ESG tracking of Newmont's concentrate and Dore value chain.
  • Engage with auditors to refine reporting, work closely with auditors to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, and ensure compliance with SOX requirements.
  • Continuously monitor and track internal and external audits; monitor changes in the organization and processes to ensure the SOX controls are updated, and the changes are communicated, in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate audit findings, identifying control gaps and deficiencies, applying critical thinking to understand root causes of issues that may span across various functions.
  • Work with leadership to prepare impact assessments and remediation forms. Report and coordinate remediation plan with relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure continual compliance with local and global regulatory requirements and industry standards related to sales and marketing of concentrates and Dore, ISO standards, and sourcing activities. This includes managing export/import regulations, trade compliance, anti-corruption measures, and ethical sourcing practices to mitigate legal and reputational risks.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert (SME), supporting the management of various external standards and reporting including, but not limited to: Conflict free gold standard, LBMA Responsible Sourcing, credit, and AR management, in conjunction with other Newmont stakeholders, ensuring compliance on management and monitoring of customer and vendor requirements and standards.
  • Support Newmont's Environmental and Social Performance teams on various initiatives, tracking, monitoring, and improving processes, reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Prepare financial reports, including SEC filings, month end and close, quarterly, and market to market while ensuring that financial information is accurate, complete, and timely, aligning with SOX guidelines.

Risk Mitigation & Continuous Improvement:
  • Responsible for records management and governance across enterprise (product verticals).
  • Identify risks related to financial reporting and internal controls and assist in preparing financial reports, including SEC filings. Collaborate with various teams to address vulnerabilities and enhance controls.
  • Review and update monthly AR reporting and metrics to streamline and improve financial reporting processes.
  • Prepare and provide written and oral reports, communications and/or presentations to leadership presenting observations and recommendations for internal control improvement and facilitating management action plans.
  • Serve as a liaison between Newmont leadership and external regulatory or other compliance reviews.
  • As SME, act as a SOX champion across cross-functional teams and leadership, providing insight into best practices and the importance and benefits of ensuring compliance across the organization.
  • Maintain awareness of industry-wide best practices and developments in ESG, supporting leadership on internal changes, as necessary.
  • Contribute to integrating sustainable practices into the Commercial team.

Your training, skills, and experience

Here is what we need to see from you!
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA, CMA, CSOP, or other relevant certifications strongly preferred.
  • 6+ years of relevant SOX, audit & accounting experience, preferably gained in both public accounting and private industry, including at least experience working in mining, with commercial experience, and reporting/FP&A related capacity at a mining or related resources industries is preferable.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, PCAOB Auditing Standards and risk and controls standards.
  • Knowledge of responsible concentrate and Dore sales and administration and related compliance requirements, including SOX regulations, conflict-free gold standards, and LBMA responsible sourcing guidelines.

Experience:
  • Previous experience supporting a company's SOX program, designing, implementing, and testing controls with a financial impact across the business; experience in a large-scale management-led SOX organization preferred.
  • Working knowledge of audit methodology, application controls, and internal control concepts.
  • Experience in technical marketing, ISO standards as they pertain to Concentrate and Dore weighing, sampling, and moisture determination as well as technical acumen related to assaying methods and best practices is advantageous.
  • Understanding of ESG principles and practices, as well as experience in implementing ESG tracking and management tools within mining operations.
  • Essential ability to communicate at all levels from site operational teams to regional leadership, site general managers, and leadership peers.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong ability to assess risks across the organization and partner with process owners to implement appropriate controls.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, including data collection and management, with advanced Excel skills or other analytical software such as Power BI would be a plus.
  • Effective communication and influence of stakeholders at all levels.
  • Organized self-starter and autonomous leader (stakeholders and this role's team may be spread across regions and time zones).
  • Multi- Language (e.g., Spanish, French, or Dutch) skills is a plus.


Working conditions and location

  • The position is located in Denver, CO. Remote working conditions may be considered.
  • Collaboration and interaction are expected with the entire Commercial team and across the global, regional, and site organization as well as across other service and operational areas of Newmont across multiple time zones.

The salary range offered for this role is USD $90,720 - $107,730. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company's performance and their own individual performance.
