Job Summary
This position is located in the Stroke Program of the Cardiovascular Health Unit within the Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Division at MDH. This position will develop and lead the implementation of the communications efforts related to cardiovascular disease and stroke. This position will serve as a communications expert integrating health equity, plain language, cross-cultural communication and digital accessibility into planning and implementation. The position will utilize best practices and community voice, and identify innovative methods to communicate with, engage, and inspire focus populations.
Responsibilities Include:
This position is eligible for telework applicants who reside in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, or South Dakota. Position locations will be determined by the top candidate and will be based out of one of the following MDH district office locations: St. Paul, St. Cloud, Duluth, Rochester, Marshall, Mankato, Bemidji, or Fergus Falls. Reimbursement for authorized business travel expenses is provided according to bargaining unit guidelines.

A related master's degree may be substituted for one and a half (1.5) years of experience. A related doctorate degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience. .

- Plan, create, and disseminate evidence-based original content.

- Developing a communications plan that includes input from key stakeholders.
- Coordinating and implementing communications activities, such as developing internal and external communications strategies, goals and objectives, timetables/schedules, work plans, or other related activities.
Minimum qualifications to be assessed during the interview process:
- Knowledge of health, public health, communications, anthropology, or related field.
- Knowledge of communications principles and strategies.
- Organization and coordination skills sufficient to manage assignments.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in nursing, social work, communications, or public health.
- Experience working with diverse populations such as low-income, rural residents, racial, ethnic, or cultural communities, adolescents, older adults, people with Limited English Proficiency, people with disabilities or mental illness, and LGBTQ communities.
- Knowledge of communications principles and strategies.
- Strong organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and coordinate groups to work on communications initiatives.
Additional Requirements
- Must successfully pass a background and reference check.
- This employment does not require a valid driver's license, but it does require occasional travel which the candidate will be responsible for meeting.
- Under U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services regulations, the successful candidate must be able to accept work in the U.S. by the day employment begins. The agency is unable to offer H-1B sponsorship.
