Job Summary

**The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

This position is located at Waters Edge in Roseville. The incumbent may have the flexibility to work in the office or a hybrid schedule. The incumbent will be required to report onsite at least once/month but may be required to work onsite more depending on business needs. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor.

This position provides water resources engineering support for the design, construction and maintenance of stormwater collection, conveyance and treatment for highways in the Metro area. The tasks completed by this position include:

  • Complete water resources design, including drainage collection and conveyance, stormwater treatment facilities, such as green infrastructure, infiltration basins, sand filters, and wet ponds, wetlands protection, and stormwater asset management.
  • Obtain NPDES, DNR, COE, and watershed district and other regulatory permitting requirements.
  • Review water resources needs on plats, site plans, reconveyance requests, limited use permits, environmental documents, drainage permits and consultant/city/county prepared construction plans to ensure MnDOT concerns and requirements are satisfied.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve drainage and erosion control issues that construction and maintenance personnel encounter in the field.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience as a Transportation Specialist or equivalent experience in Water Resources Engineering which includes one or more of the following:
  • Conducting stormwater and water resources design support under limited supervision
  • Use of drainage or stormwater manuals, such as MnDOT's drainage manual or MPCA stormwater manual
  • Creation of plan sheets for stormwater designs and performing stormwater calculations
  • Preparing water resources permit applications and responding to regulatory review to obtain required permits

Additionally, candidates must have the SWPPP Design certification or the ability to obtain it within twelve months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications
  • College degree or coursework in hydrology, hydraulics, water resources, natural resources, environmental studies, engineering, or related.
  • Experience providing high level technical water resources design and permitting support for stormwater collection, conveyance and treatment, including working knowledge of stormwater policies, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Experience using stormwater and drafting software such as ORD (including drainage design), MicroStation (or other CADD system), GeoPak Drainage, Culvert Master, HY8, GIS or HydroCAD in the projects.
