Position Summary:
The Communications Specialist identifies internal and external communications opportunities and needs based on organizational priorities and assists with the development of materials for distribution through various channels and platforms. This position will develop and maintain relationships with internal audiences, including faculty, staff, trainees and students and external audiences including journalists, community stakeholders and consumers, to advance awareness of Johns Hopkins Medicine's mission, vision and values. This role will also assist in operational processes and analytical tasks as needed, and coordinates with other Marketing and Communications department colleagues to implement projects and initiatives.
Education/Knowledge:
Bachelor's degree required. Degree in journalism, public relations, marketing or related communications fields is preferred.
Experience:
A minimum of three years of experience in a communications field, preferably in a healthcare or education setting.

Knowledge/Skills:
- Demonstrated experience implementing effective external and internal communications plans and strategies;
- Knowledge of the healthcare industry or academic medicine helpful;
- Ability to write stories, work with communications tools, develop content for publications, web, social media and news media;
- Knowledge of AP Style and ability to apply institutional style standards consistently;
- Familiarity with content management systems as well as internal and external performance tracking analytical tools is preferred.
