The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director of Compensation, the Compensation Analyst provides professional guidance, coordination, and support in effectively and consistently applying administrative staff job classification and compensation administration policies and practices across Columbia University's Morningside Campus. The Analyst administers and maintains various compensation-related data management systems and coordinates the implementation of University-wide compensation programs and initiatives. As appropriate, the incumbent will provide consultative guidance and support to the Senior Human Resources Business Partners (SHRBPs) and the University community in applying compensation management principles, guidelines, procedures, and best practices.

Responsibilities
  • Researches and analyzes competitive compensation practices in the job market; contributes to established compensation surveys and develops and implements custom surveys as appropriate.
  • Works with Sr. HRBPs and local HR teams to support the completion of compensation surveys, including the IvyPlus Survey matching and submission process. Updates the database, prepares and submits survey files, and manages results data for reporting.
  • Prepares reports and presentations for management regarding compensation information.
  • Supports the annual merit increase process and provides training and guidance to users. Prepares and tests the system, trains users, maintains user tables, prepares data loads, and audits increases entered into the system.
  • Oversees the evaluation, classification, and reclassification requests to ensure consistency and FLSA adherence across schools and departments on Columbia's Morningside Campus; Consults with HR Client Services throughout the job classification process for existing and newly created positions.
  • Contributes to developing, writing, editing, and modifying operating policies, guidelines, and procedures, as appropriate.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local compensation laws and regulations.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and at least three years of compensation experience.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and communicate data.
  • Experience in Excel, including experience building analyses and models
  • Knowledge of compensation administration principles and procedures.
  • Familiarity with federal and state wage and salary laws and regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with various constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Knowledge of job analysis and evaluation principles, methods, and procedures.
