Summary

The FBI is recruiting a Computer Systems Engineer to support mission critical forensic network. As a Computer Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for evaluating, designing, testing, implementing and maintaining network technologies in support of the FBI's investigative mission.

Duties

GS 13 Level:
  • Performs design work, testing and evaluation, development and integration of components, software, hardware, and subsystems for the FBI's operational networks and systems.
  • Analyzes hardware and software specifications and establishes test requirement and validation procedures to measure performance, quality and reliability in acquisition, development and integration of computer resources components and end items for major IT systems.
  • Understands complex systems and is able to conduct fault isolation of networking components, server components and storage systems.
  • Contributes to the formation of strategies to explore and establish the fundamental value of new technology and identify the most fruitful approaches for systems in the operational network.
  • Identifies and evaluates new systems and storage solutions to be used in the operational network.
  • Capable of troubleshooting and isolating system/storage bottlenecks and make recommendations to address shortfalls.
  • Utilizes scripting languages (commonly Powershell) to automate repetitive tasks and automate troubleshooting processes.

GS 14 Level:

  • Responsible for developing, evaluating, and executing formal test plans and evaluating components, services, and systems against functional and technical requirements in order to integrate new capabilities into supported systems.
  • Assists with the design, implementation, maintenance process, management and root cause analysis of an expanded operation wide area network, enabling rapid implementation, integration, and evaluation of new investigative and operation technologies and techniques.
  • Leads the troubleshooting and corrective actions on tickets that require escalation from the field administrators.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret-SCI clearance.
  • Some travel (5%) is required.
  • Selectee will be required to complete form FD-887, Request for Access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).


Qualifications

GS-13: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
  • Experience in engineering, computer hardware, systems software and design, integration, networking and computer system architecture.
  • Experience with modern operating systems, servers and storage systems.
  • Experience using scripting languages (commonly PowerShell) to automate tasks and assist in system maintenance.
  • Experience with troubleshooting Windows based systems and conducting fault isolation of complex systems.
  • Experience with securing servers and resolving STIG compliance and security vulnerability scanning actions.

GS 14: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

  • Experience in coordinating, integrating, designing and developing the overall systems architectures to meet operational needs.
  • Experience integrating applications and systems utilizing SQL database integration.
  • Experience in making presentations and delivering papers and technical information before internal and external groups and documenting findings procedures and system design.
  • Experience leading teams of administrators and conducting training of junior personnel on new and existing systems.
