Job Duties

To supervise and direct investigations into serious incidents and crimes involving wildlife, hunting, fishing and boating. These incidents and crimes are to include, but are not limited to: hunting or boating accidents involving serious injury or death; commercialization of wildlife and plants; marine theft and fraud investigations; any requests from uniformed personnel where their investigative efforts have been ineffective or require additional/specialized support; fraud or financial crimes relating to Department of Wildlife Resources licenses, hunter/boating safety programs, etc.; serious incidents that occur on Agency owned or controlled lands; and any other investigation as assigned by the Special Agent in Charge, or their designee.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of, and experience related to, supervising and/or conducting complex law enforcement investigations and other methods of promoting compliance with laws and regulations. Skill in the use of law enforcement equipment and technology. Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, oversee and implement law enforcement strategies and tactics directed at large scale investigations, and other compliance-related programs; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in a variety of venues; to work cooperatively and effectively with others to accomplish Agency objectives

Additional Considerations

A high school diploma or equivalent; possession of or eligibility for a Virginia driver's license; experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities; successfully completed required position conditions of pre-employment and probationary employment; applicants must achieve and maintain Department of Criminal Justice certification as a law enforcement officer per Code of Virginia.
Preferred qualifications: Minimum of 10 years of experience as a DCJS certified law enforcement officer, with at least 7 years serving as a conservation police officer. Experience serving as a conservation police officer supervisor or full-time special agent within the special operations unit.
