TxDOT's Fort Worth District is seeking a Construction Inspector I or II in the North Tarrant County Area Office to join us in the inspection and oversight of essential projects. Depending on skill level, this employee will perform all facets of bridge inspection, roadway inspection, environmental compliance, and materials inspection. Duties will include inspection of construction work performed by contractors, field testing and ensuring contractors are following plans and specifications.

Minimum/Maximum Monthly Salary

Construction Inspector I: (B18) $3,793.41 - $5,921.25

Construction Inspector II: (B19) $4,020.33 - $6,335.66

Position Description

Construction Inspector I:

Inspects construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications; acts as consultant regarding work progress and problem resolution; may serve as the only inspector on a construction project or assist in overseeing construction inspection activities for very large and/or complex projects within a district or conduct statewide construction inspection activities for ongoing airport improvement projects. Responsible to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for approval of all work. Work requires contact with contractors. May perform materials tests and manufacturing process inspections at fabrication sites. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Construction Inspector II:

Essential Duties:

Construction Inspector I:

  • Attends pre-construction meetings and answers questions from contractors and other attendees.
  • Ensures adequate levels of equipment and materials are assigned to projects; ensures material tests are performed and materials meet required standards.
  • Ensures contractors build roadways, bridges and related highway structures and/or airport improvements in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Monitors project phasing and traffic control plans or airport closure plans and ensures compliance with approved safety standards; inspects barricades; as required moves traffic control devices and barricades.
  • Prepares monthly and final estimates.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.


Construction Inspector II (Including essential duties for Construction Inspector I):

  • Consults with Project Engineers, resident project representatives and contractors' superintendents on work progress and construction problems; reviews equipment utilization data and time/cost estimates.
  • Oversees construction record-keeping activities; recommends payments to contractors; recommends change orders, extra work orders/supplemental agreements; reviews proposed change orders submitted by consultants; prepares reports.
  • Resolves differences in interpretation of plans and specifications.
  • Serves as a lead worker or project leader.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Experience:

Construction Inspector I: No experience required. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Construction Inspector II: 1 year in construction, maintenance and repairs, construction inspection, engineering support, materials or process inspection; or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent) Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Supervisory Experience:

- No supervisory experience required.

  • Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling
