We are seeking a motivated design engineer who wants to apply product design knowledge towards creating product and process cost estimates in response to customer requests. You will collaborate with various stakeholders within the business to document product cost and assist business development managers in securing new opportunities. You thrive on interacting with others, capturing information, distilling it into a summary, and sharing it with others. You enjoy creating visuals that help others understand the big picture. The Costing Engineer has equal interest in product design, manufacturing processes, and winning new business.

Our Team

Our Printed Circuit Solutions group is part of our Enabling Solutions Business Unit at Molex. We focus on developing User Interfaces, Smart Labels, Sensors and Power Electronics products for various applications.

What You Will Do
  • Collaborate with Business Development and Sales Engineers to capture detailed technical information on customer opportunities.
  • Respond to Business Development with detailed costing in response to requests for quotation and support general engineering capability inquiries.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles early in the quotation phase, breaking down customer information for process development and manufacturing ease.
  • Use basic product design, BOM management, CAD breakdown, and utilize SAP to develop costing for customer designs.
  • Capture and consolidate all cost contributions, optimizing:
    • Material costs (electrical and mechanical components)
    • Labor costs
    • Capital costs for equipment
    • Factory equipment usage
    • Non-Returnable Engineering (NRE) costs
  • Interact with the development and manufacturing team, suppliers, and management to understand how manufacturing methodologies affect costs.
  • Learn about materials and technologies including flexible silver-printed circuits, flexible copper circuits, printed circuit boards, plastic injection molded parts, graphics, silicone rubber parts, electrical components, metal stamped parts, etc. for an electronic assembly to create accurately costed customer solutions.


Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
  • 1-3 years of experience with design engineers to visualize and cost preliminary designs.
  • Experience summarizing costing information to assist in winning new business opportunities.
  • Proficiency in documenting assumptions and establishing part costs for both prototype and high-volume production.
  • Knowledge of capital equipment costs and amortization.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and other technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of Bills of Material for electrical and mechanical components.
  • This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship


What Will Put You Ahead
  • SAP Knowledge
  • Exposure to Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) techniques.
  • Experience with viewing Gerber files for layout design.
  • Experience with 2D CAD viewing software such as AutoCAD.
  • Experience with 3D CAD viewing software such as NX or equivalent.
  • Understanding of manufacturing process flows for electronic assemblies.
