Job Description

Under general supervision, with very broad latitude for independent judgment and decision making, performs highly difficult and responsible professional and supervisory work in the creative arts therapy discipline. In addition to performing the duties of Assignment Level I and II at a higher level, also performs the following typical tasks:
  1. Coordinates and implements therapeutic programs that utilize advanced creative arts therapies techniques and principles for an assigned area of a health care facility. Monitors and guides Creative Arts Therapists, in the establishment and provision of these programs.
  2. Orients and trains newly hired Creative Arts Therapists/Activity Therapists and other auxiliary staff to the function of Therapeutic Rehabilitation Department.
  3. Guides, supervises and evaluates Creative Arts Therapists/Activity Therapists, auxiliary staff, interns and students.
  4. Provides clinical supervision for Creative Arts Therapists practicing under a Limited Permit as required by the New York State Education Law, Article 163.
  5. Reviews the quality and quantity of the clinical case records of Creative Arts Therapists/Activity Therapists for accuracy and completeness.
  6. Provides coverage/ fills in for the Director of Program during absences and vacations.
  7. Provides administrative support and complete departmental and hospital-wise projects as assigned by Director of Program.
  8. Prepares and maintains progress reports, monitor unit group attendance log, statistical information, and participates in departmental and facility-wide quality improvement/performance improvement (QI/Pl) activities.
  9. Assists and participates in departmental and facility-wide Wellness initiative programs/services.
  10. Performs other duties and related functions as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. A valid License issued by the New York State Education Department to practice as a Creative Arts Therapist; and
  2. Three years of full-time, paid, professional experience in creative arts therapy.


Department Preferences

  1. Weekends and evenings flexibility required (Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday shift)
  2. Music, Drama or Dance/Movement Therapist preferred
