Position Description

The Creative Services Director oversees a team of professionals shaping the overall creative landscape of TxDOT. This position directs the operations and strategies of four branches: Media Production, Brand and Design, Website Services, and Creative Operations. The Media Production team of videographers, photographers and editors capture TxDOT's story by creating engaging videos and photos, and provides an archive of these resources for agency use. Brand and Design provides visual design strategy for both print and digital content while enforcing brand standards across the agency and with vendors. Website Services is responsible for TxDOT's digital presence, including web governance and policy, and the development and maintenance of TxDOT's externally facing website at www.txdot.govand other digital properties. Creative Operations is responsible for outreach campaigns and programs, project management, and customer service. This position reports to the Communications Division Director. Work requires extensive contact with departmental executives, industry representatives, legislative leaders, government entities, private entities, employees and the public. Employees at this level are self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work.

Essential Duties:

  • Coordinates with media relations staff to develop and implement short- and long-range communication plans for key department messages using the latest web-based technologies and social media tools.
  • Directs the administration, management, analysis and enhancement of the department's internal and external web site efforts to ensure consistency with the department's strategic direction and official position.
  • Directs the planning, research, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance and support of Internet and Intranet

    site portals.
  • Oversees the planning, writing, editing and production of internal and external web content.
  • Represents the Department at state and national levels and responds to special requests from the Commission and the TxDOT Administration.
  • Supervises managers of four branches: Media Production, Brand and Design, Web Solutions, and Creative Operations
  • Consults with TxDOT divisions and develops external and internal print and web marketing platforms to promote TxDOT jobs and programs.
  • Oversees the planning, writing, editing and production of strategic video, audio and photographic projects in support of the department's goals and objectives.
  • Maintains TxDOT's brand guidelines and oversees department adherence to them, and assures proper use of the TxDOT logo.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in a related discipline. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

  • 6 years of experience writing, editing, web development and graphic design work to include oversight of a website redesign project. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
  • Must have three (3) years supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.

  • Web design and use of applicable development tools for web structures
