We are searching for candidates to fill up to three (3) Fish and Wildlife Scientific Aid or Fish and Wildlife Seasonal Aid positions on the Central Valley Angler Survey in its West Sacramento office. These positions are part of a team estimating sport fishing effort, catch, and harvest of Chinook Salmon in the Central Valley. Under the lead and direction of an Environmental Scientist, incumbents will operate motor vehicles, jet- and propeller-powered motor boats, and kayaks, and perform surveys on foot, to count and contact anglers on the Sacramento-San Joaquin river system, including the upper San Francisco Bay/Delta Estuary (Delta).
Following an established protocol, incumbents will interview anglers to collect field data on angling effort, catch, and harvest of anadromous sport fishes; identify and enumerate fish species in the angler catch; collect and record angler and biological data; collect heads from adipose fin-clipped Chinook Salmon for recovery of coded-wire tags; collect scale and genetic tissue samples from Chinook Salmon for age and stock identification assessments; and check completed data forms and biological samples and submit them to the Environmental Scientist serving as project lead.
The Fish and Wildlife Scientific and Seasonal Aid classification are a non-testing classification.

Working Conditions
Program: Central Valley Fisheries Monitoring and Research
Location: Work days will begin at the Fisheries Branch Field Station, located in West Sacramento, California. From this location, a state vehicle will be taken to several data collection sites in the Central Valley and Delta.
Hours: Variable and seasonal, 30-40 hours/week. Requires work on weekends and holidays. The applicant may work up to 189 days per 12-month period.
