Student Life Effectiveness within the Division of Student Life invites applications for the position of Data Analyst.

Student Life Effectiveness facilitates assessment, evaluation, planning, and other research activities that actively contribute to the culture of evidence within the Division of Student Life at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Through training and skill development related to program review, assessment, evaluation, planning, and research, SLE strives to help departments embed these areas in day to day operations of their programs and services to continuously improve and enhance learning for all students.

The Position: The data analyst will analyze data from Student Life units to discover and interpret trends, patterns, and relationships, while developing and presenting visualizations. This position will be responsible for developing reports from institutional databases and work with staff to communicate survey data through reports and presentations. This position will also manage staff access to designated software systems.

Responsibilities:

• DATA PREPARATION AND ANALYZATION: Manage, collect, and organize data for divisional assessment reporting; Identify and interpret data trends, patterns, and relationships while providing relevant insight that can be used to make strategic recommendations; Compile information from internal and external data sources to identify factors affecting student engagement and student success; Execute the implementation and analysis of quantitative data utilizing quantitative data tools.

• DATA VISUALIZATION AND REPORTING: Develop data-sharing visualizations for multiple modes of dissemination; Create data visualization to illustrate patterns and trends in various data utilizing business intelligence tools; Manage and coordinate regular reporting processes and cycles; Work in collaboration with Student Life Communications to develop sustainable methods to communicate timely and relevant data through reports and multimedia presentations; Execute reporting of quantitative data.

• SYSTEM ACCESS MANAGEMENT: Manage staff access to technology systems used for assessment and planning purposes; Ensure new staff have access to relevant systems in a timely manner; Regularly review and terminate access of staff and/or campus partners when access is no longer necessary; Maintain accurate records of staff with active access to technology systems.

• OUTREACH: Collaborate with peers in Institutional Research and Strategic Analysis to develop and maintain data repository for Student Life; Fulfill data requests for Student Life staff in collaboration with the Office of Information Technology and other campus data owners; Provide consultation and conduct training regarding quantitative data collection and analysis to Student Life staff; Serve on institutional and/or divisional committees, task forces, and work groups, as needed.

Qualifications:

What We Require

Education: Master's degree in social science education, business administration, or related field

Experience: 2+ years of data analysis or program assessment experience; Demonstrated experience with project management software and/or tool

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Working knowledge of SQL programming, Power BI, Tableau software, and various survey software

• Working knowledge of Banner or other integrated student information system

• Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research, analysis, and statistical method

Salary: $52,000-$58,000 annually. The salary for this position is commensurate with experience and other qualifications and is accompanied by a standard university benefits package. This is an exempt, 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track staff position. There is an option for a hybrid work schedule.
