Primary Purpose

This role drives Ahold-Delhaize USA (ADUSA) Digital Team's Data Engineering programs to support Omni-Channel business (e.g. Warehouse Management, Fulfillment Platform, Accounting, Billing, Payment, Transportation, Merchandising, E-commerce, and other operational use cases) by defining the strategic direction and advancement of the data engineering capabilities and support growth of sales and customer base. This role is an expert across omni-channel applications Data Models and ensures that the Product Management and Engineering teams have that same level of knowledge and expertise. This role partners with the Development and Product Team Leads to evaluate opportunities and help define business cases tied to strategic initiatives decided by the business. This role establishes processes and governance for evaluating Data roadmap priorities and partners closely with various stakeholders to refine the Data Engineering roadmap. This person and their team also maintain focus on Data Warehouse, Data Security, and Data Governance initiatives while developing new strategies and implementing new data frameworks that improve processes and exceed challenging and multifaceted business demands.

Our flexible/hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Define and execute Data Strategy, Data Governance, Data Security and Data Engineering Roadmap to achieve business objectives, including guiding and managing the creation of data integration pipelines, data warehouses, tools and technologies required to scale. Drives relationship and processes with business stakeholders and project managers to define, evolve and manage the digital roadmap.
  • Refines the roadmap per scrum cycle to align with changes in the business priorities.
  • Lead the development and implementation of Data Engineering projects along with integration with various applications.
  • Adopt new approaches and techniques to increase the awareness of data engineering within the organization.
  • Prioritize staying ahead of the competition in features, functionality, usability, operational productivity, and application performance through keeping up with industry best practices, data management technologies and features that improve operational productivity, cost reduction and margin improvement.
  • Partner closely with Engineering and Data Analytics teams to ensure delivery of clean, high-quality data pipelines at scale.
  • Collaborate with operations team and business peers to develop business cases and help define ROI
  • Uphold and enforce data security and confidentiality standards.
  • Identify necessary development processes enhancements to drive evolution forward and partners with stakeholders to effect process change.
  • Ability to identify and drive forward new opportunities with integrated third-party relationships.
  • Act as a top-level adviser to the senior leaders, as well as a sounding board for ideas.
  • Work as a partner with the Development leadership and coordinates the implementation of new features and changes across IT domain areas.
  • Deliver well defined stories for both development and the business.
  • Focused on delivering a best-in-class experience and usability for the business.
  • Works closely with Project Managers on large cross IT and company projects and encourages team members to find ways to improve results and drive innovation.
  • Provides input to legal for third party software and support contracts and agreements.
  • Manage 3rd party vendor relationships.
  • Work closely with Customer Care to stay on top of current customer feedback.
  • Monitors Operations and Customer Care reports for trends and issues that can be solved with improvements to software systems.
  • Builds trust and consensus with the Leads of Development and their development staff. Must create visions and mutual respect so that others will follow in order build great products. Gets the most out of the teams by inspiring them with the vision aligning with their goals and motivators.
  • Maintain a holistic view by removing hurdles, guiding the team, helping them see the end goal of a product and following each member to help address their individual responsibilities is what makes a Leader good at his/her job.
  • Proficiently discuss feature development and implementation with the technical teams as easily as discussing strategy with the business stakeholders. While coding is not necessarily a needed skill, understanding the logic is important; while writing test scripts may not be a critical skill, understanding the test plan surely is. Same goes for understanding information architecture, design language etc.
  • Delivers status reports to the technology leadership.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience in Database and Data Warehouse Management inclusive of 5+ years of experience in Project Management and 5+ years of experience in Scrum Agile methodology.
  • Experience with Modern Data Stack implementations and methodologies, including Cloud-based solutions.
  • Proven knowledge of transactional database management systems, storage technologies, ETL processes and Cloud data warehousing.
  • Broad understanding of eCommerce business processes and interdependencies.
  • Proven track record in working collaboratively across functional areas to drive results.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; presentation experience to small and large groups both internally and externally.
  • Experience in working with Development and Product Management teams.
  • High-level technical understanding (development methodologies, phases, etc.).
  • Understanding and experience working with Cloud technologies including Microsoft Fabric components like Azure Data Factory, PostgreSQL and Synapse Data Engineering.
  • Learns quickly from new experiences, others, and structured learning.
  • Shows initiative in all situations and is exceptional at spotting and seizing opportunities to enhance data engineering.
  • Deep experience with project management tools like Jira, Slack and Confluence.
  • Strong Technology, application development and eCommerce background.
  • Proven track record of managing software product roadmaps.
  • Deep knowledge of the ADUSA business and customers.
  • Expert analytical skills.
  • Expert interpersonal skills: presentation experience to small and large groups both internally and externally and ability to effectively Interact with representatives from Technology and Business Partners in an open and authentic manner.
  • Leadership presence through inspiring confidence, driving results, collaborating effectively and demonstrating integrity.
  • Master's degree preferred.
